canelo may aswell just retire now... guy has spent a whole career bouncing around multiple weight classes avoiding the top guys or fighting them when they are on the slide, he now has nowhere to go because he is running scared of benavidez at SMW and bivol/beterbiev are way too good for him at LHW

Not sure but I think fighters wait around too long based on vague promises and implied threats from powerful interests. In the build up to the Taylor fight, Jack Catterall implied pressure had been brought to bear to force him to stand aside to allow the unification tournament. Although he had the legal right to enforce his WBO mandatory position he chose not to through fear of being frozen out.

I think a lot of these threats are idle and fighters should just press their position. What moral obligation does Benavidez have to let Al Haymon promote Canelo as an "undisputed" champion against weaker opponents?
