    Recent appearance from Adrien Broner

I had never liked Broner, but as the late Larry had said, he always did have the potential for elite status. I agreed with Larry, and to both of our chagrin one never saw Adrien put it together... Instead we got various looks at silliness, cherry picked fights, and run ins.

I had always heard broner was lacing some of the younger guys up, and it made me reflexively raise eyebrows...

I was recently suprised to catch Broner talking about the Devin Haney Tank Davis sparring match. I was delighted to hear Broner sounding: intelligent, thoughtful, articulate and carrying himself like a "G." I know his career is behind him, but I wish him the best and it is kind of nice to see that people can work things out... The man I saw speaking on this sparring match was wise, informed and could indeed be an inspiration for some of the guys coming up: Here is the segment I saw.

Broner was insufferable, but it always annoyed me how little credit fans would give him because they didn't like his personality.

I remember when he was at 135 and moved up to 147 to fight Malignaggi for the title, people called it a "cherry pick."

I kept asking "If Ricky Burns, the other top guy at 135, went up two weight classes to fight Malignaggi would people say the same thing?" Of course not - because he wouldn't ****ing win.

It was only a "cherry pick" because Broner was an excellent boxer. He had a very similar career to Brandon Rios, to be honest.

Amazing to hear Broner clear headed and friendly. Hope he gets it together.

I don't think Broner ever had the potential to be elite. Maybe at 130 due to his sheer size at the weight but there's only so long he'd ever make that weight.

He has talent, well, realistically he has fast hands but that's about it.

He has very little skill and even less ring IQ. His potential was always extremely limited. He got by on being "The next Floyd" by doing a cheap imitation and beating up undersized bums for the most part.

In fairness homeless ppl sound intelligent & articulate around Elie goofy ass.

That said I'm a AB fan, but I like him these days for his humor/joking ability. If anyone in boxing needs a podcast & could kill it better than anyone else out of nowhere its AB. Dude is cool with a lot of mfers in boxing. Knows the sport. Can have fun with a lot of different types of mfers. And outside of his weirdo crimes hes a likeable, entertaining mfer.

AB was knocking on the door of the elite, but let's be real, he did get hit a lot despite looking like he didn't. His most impressive win to me was when he dispatched Jason Litzau as easily as he did but then again, Litzau had already been brutally KO'd by others prior to that.

DeMarco was a good win, but he was easy enough to hit himself, so I wouldn't consider DeMarco "elite". Broner was a B+ fighter, not quite ever making A's.

I do think it would have had to have been at 130, maybe at 135. He had power and Imo could have developed as a puncher providing he could stay at 130/135, but no real work ethic, or perspective so its hard to tell.

I think those qualities you speak of are in contrast to the ****** things he would do like the Walmart change fiasco... I think those qualities could carry him a long way if he allows them to shine through.

I should take the opportunity, responding to your post, to clarify my assertion about AB: I tend to believe a lot of fighters have the package to become excellent, and even elite... But I also believe very few will have the luck, the personality and the hidden special qualities that allow one to become an elite talent. For every Gatti (who really took his abilities and made the most of them) there are many guys like Nunn, Ibeabuchi, etc, etc, who have talent to spare and foibles as well!

The real special fighters are those that became mythological lol. Marciano, Ali... etc. Lets take Tyson Fury for example: The way he got up from that Wilder shot was special... But like so many others he struggles.

Broner had a good run early... Then he just screwed it being a d-i-c-k ... He's a lost soul ...
