What if the non-competing opponent never fights again? Why would it need to be from a "purse" as opposed to existing cash holdings of the fighter? It's just theatre for a dubious public.

ESPN says that it comes out of the purse for the fighter. So it's unenforceable only if the fighter wants to never fight for the Saudis again and miss out on all future Big Oil paydays. So yes, if they're willing to retire and miss out on a massive payday and forfeit all future Big money paydays, sure. And that's leaving aside other ways that the Saudis have to enforce things. Dunno that anyone would be willing to leave that much money on the table though.

The Courts would reject it in my opinion. It's been presented so far as a penalty clause and I'm assuming a court would see it the same way.

You can claim for damages. You can have an amount in the contract for damages. But you can't have a penalty clause. Or more to the point, you can have one but it can be challenged in court if someone doesn't want to pay.

If Fury doesn't make it to this fight, you can bet that Usyk will need to take him to court to see that money.

Consider as well that the contract probably already has injury and delay clauses. It's a boxing contract. It happens.

Its not about pulling out. I got 99.9999% confidence neither guy will pull out outside of something that makes them unfit to fight, like Fury's cut rn.

There is too much money in play & both these mfers are old & don't have many paydays like this left if this isn't the last insane payday to whoever loses.
