Comments Thread For: Euro News: Dubois vs. Shala in Play For EBU Belt, Merhy Withdraws From Spot

Belgian heavyweight Ryad Merhy (32-2) has relinquished his position as challenger for the vacant EBU heavyweight title and German Granit Shala (15-0) has stepped in. In the other corner is none other than Daniel Dubois (20-2).

Surprised Ryad Merhy would pass on an opportunity to face Dubois for the EU belt. Sure he would of received his highest payday ever. He is coming off an ok win over the faded Tony Yoka & was supposed to face Tom Schwarz. Maybe didn’t feel like getting obliterated by Dubois as I think that might have happened. Not sure who this new guy is replacing him. Looking at his record he has feasted on euro-cans mostly & only has 5 KOs in 15 fights. Dubois is going to punch a hole in his face or he will withdraw scared. This is a complete mismatch & way too big a step up for Shala from what I see looking at his resume.

      Granit Shala
6-0 against fighters with winning records.
Beat Peter Kabiru in the amateurs.

      Nothing to bother Dubois with.

This shot at the EBU seems like an odd step backwards for Dubois but hey ho it seems that's how Frank moves these days.

Has his guy fight REAL champions and then move back multiple levels, try and get them back in with the rankings with his pals the WBO and do it all over again...

Merhy was at least a recognizable name. Never even heard of Shala. Waste of time for Dubois.

I think Kabayel or somebody would of been a better fight for Dubois. He vacated the EBU belt and is looking for a big fight and that's a big fight for Kabayel in terms of a money fight in the division outside of the big names who are all tied up in other fights right now. And even tho Dubois is coming of a good win over miller after the usyk loss there isn't to many top 10 guys out there right now for him either. Id of said Kabayel or run it back with Joyce

This once highly regarded title looks to be sadly going the same way as the once prestigious Commonwealth championship. And it's all down to the alphabet boys!!.....

No thanks. Why not Hrgovic -DDD on Joshua -Ngannou undercard?

WBC has ordered Kabayel v Sanchez. I don't mind this fight for Dubois. He's already fought the elite, lost to Joyce, had the crazy Don King show and resurrected against Miller. Really great experiences. He's got age on his side and all the belts are tied up until next year so no need to get to mandatory now.

Lower level fights will give him chance to work on some things that against better competition he may not be able to as he's too focused on what they are doing. Warren has time now to plot a route to Dubois getting another shot in 12-15 months.
