WBA promoting Romero - Cruz on their website

No mention of Romero's obligation to Barroso. They just rely on people not paying attention and questioning these things. How long will we be stuck with two WBA titleholders at 140 now? Who wants to bet Barroso never gets his rematch?
World super lightweight champion Rolando Romero will return to the ring on March 30 to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) belt against tough challenger Isaac Cruz at the Premier Boxing Champ…

WBA is a corrupt organization doing corrupt practices in broad daylight. They're also allied with Decubas who would have pushed through the Lara vs Garcia catchweight fight had Zerafa kept quiet. Lara is Decubas' guy.

Honestly, neither Barroso nor Romero ever deserved a title shot in the first place so it's hard to get too upset about which one of them gets the trinket.

Teofimo Lopez is the only champion at 140. He's the lineal/TBRB/Ring Magazine champion. The alphabet belts are meaningless in every division.

Idk why ppl clutch their pearls over belt groups doing belt group sh^t in 2024. These belts have been, are & will continue to be corrupt & not working toward the uplifting of the sport of boxing. They are a net negative towards the sport. No one should be surprised by this still.

WBA is as corrupt as the rest of them and it ain’t gonna change unless fighters start putting their foot down
Barroso will sail away even though he’s deserving of at least a rematch

I can't speak for others, but you may recall a thread I made about investigative boxing journalism. In part motivated by the need to hold the sanctioning bodies to account. I know they make ****** decisions, I'm not surprised by it, but I think we need to know the precise reasons why.

We can't on the one hand talk about the importance of "undisputed" and at the same time hold that the sanctioning bodies don't matter. It's a contradiction. If we're not going to get rid of them (which would be my preference) then they should function more accountably.

Personally I rarely bring up specific belts. I'll call something a belt fight over a WBC or whatever title fight. I'll also more often call someone #1 over a champion or undisputed. To me they are an evil in boxing that should be gone already & replaced with a better ran belt group (just one not 4), but I have zero control over that happening. So my only recourse is to take about them less & disregard them as corrupt ent^ties until more promoters, boxers & fans do the same or worse & they are removed from the sport like the cancer they are.
