I think that he keeps the strength in his hands by keeping them down. It gets tiring getting hit on the side and holdin them up. Also he doesn't have any movement to evade of of the shots anyway and having them low allows him to maintain his average speed from start to finish of a punch.

To be fair gents, Froch only brought up Calzaghe because he was prompted to by Dirrell's comment. It's inevitable that the press is going to keep focusing on that aspect.
