But there was no reward for fighting Zhang , he had nothing to gain, thats the whole point. Benavidez has no reward in beating Morrell. Everyone will just say Morrell was too green.

Reward is that Morrell is the longest outstanding mandatory in the division and the only other credible threat. If he actually wants to back up his claims about being the best in the division, that's the guy he needs to fight if Canelo won't. I, for one, will absolutely give him credit if he beats Morrell, just as I give him credit for having beaten Plant, who I also rate. Andrade was always second tier, and one of the worst ducks in the sport. Benavidez is literally the only champ or ex champ he ever fought, and he got wrecked.

He's gonna have to fight Morrell sooner or later. If he gets it done now, and people complain about it, he can always have another fight if Morrell is the goods and works his way back into contention. He's the most likely rival for Benavidez after Canelo retires.

Either mandatories and title shots mean something or they should be done away with, and people need to just accept that champions can do whatever they want and quit whinging about it.

Morrell is the only other opponent who has a better claim to the fight within the rules of the sanctioning organizations. If his claim isn't respected, then being champion, let alone being undisputed, doesn't mean squat. You're just a man-fan, or more likely just a hater.

He's mandatory for Canelo. He's got the longest outstanding mandatory claim to the WBA 168 title. January 2021. The WBC, IBF, and WBO have all been satisfied more recently.
