  • Comments Thread For: David Morrell: "If Benavidez Fights The Way He Fought Andrade With Me, He's Gonna Lose"

Demetrius Andrade was kept out of the loop for years. The former Olympian turned two-division champ found it practically impossible to land a big fight at 154 and 160 pounds, his natural weight classes. So, on a whim, he moved up in weight to take on David Benavidez.

How good is Morrell under pressure for those who have watched him over the years? From what I've seen Benavidez can't sit back and box with him. Despite his pressure, he is still well-schooled Cuban. Can Benavidez walk this guy down? I mean it took him 22 rounds with one of FMW's D+ boxer-puncher. I know the fanboys are in denial about that.

Benavidez has to be willing to fight him. That's the best fight at 168 that doesn't involve Canelo or maybe Bivol, IMO.

I don't think any of his opponents have really been able to walk him down. Aidos Yerbossynuly was probably the guy that came to closest to trying, and he's also the guy that Morrell put in a coma. The thing that concerns me is that he keeps his hands really low, but so far he's been good about evading return fire. Not sure if that will hold up at the highest level. Falcao was an Olympic medalist and he got absolutely flattened. But he hasn't been in any really high level fights so it's hard to say how he'll hold up against David Benavidez and Canelo.

          "22 rds"

Tell me what was Morell doing at 20 yrs old??? I know what he wasn't doing fighting ranked opponents for championships in the professionals.

Morell gets carved up brutally by Benavidez mark my words..

I don’t see what other see in Morrell. He’s still too green imo. Hasn’t fought a quality opponent to really test him. David destroys him right now imo. Give it a few years and some experience maybe it’s more even.

gotta wonder what’s goin on with these PBC guys, were more than halfway through January and there’s still no dates announced, no potential fights even being discussed. I heard a rumor about PBC having venues on hold for March but again it’s already almost February. When they gonna start promoting, pressers, etc. ?

Morel fighting the bottom of the barrel of the division and his fans go wild thinking he can hang with the big boys. This guy needs to think about fighting at least B level opponents before he can call out the A class....

We're going to mark your words because that ain't happening, if it were that easy benavidez would have fought him already. He's the real deal whether your like it or not. I tell you what he was doing at 20yo, he was busy defecting from Cuba, You like others don't know what it takes for leaving all you know behind to try to make it in a different country. We as fans should support these athletes instead of talking nonsense. I don't know who wins, but I doubt is going to be easy.

He's trying to fight the boogeyman, don't you know that? Or you just wake up? He's been the regular belt holder and the #1 mandatory for the past 2½ years, WBA side, and he's gunning for the most dangerous and less lucrative guy in the division. Find me another SMW past or present with a similar resume than Morrell Jr with ten fights, find only one.

If you don't see what the majority of fans and experts are seeing now, you still won't see it in a few years. Time will tell.
