The other organizations will soon follow, of course. These crooks can't resist those new sanctioning fees.

The weight classes are outdated anyway. The lower weights differ so negligible, allowing one man to fight in 3-4-5 divisions in time and 2-3 when he wants. Yet, the heavier you become, as much as the upper LHW limit means you are any heavy person (that weight is more like average), the fewer options you have, especially for people around 185 cm. and above. And then you have the heavyweight starting at 91 kg. which is pretty low. So I find the bridgerweight just as needed as the cruiserweight was at the time.

I think bridgerweight is a joke but technically Badou Jack knocked out the reigning WBC cruiserweight champion and then intentionally vacated the belt to pursue a bridgerweight belt. So there's at least one top level cruiserweight in the division, at least for now.

The weight class (between Heavy & Cruiser) is a good thing. Athletes are bigger now, so a weight class in that range is good for the sport.

But the name is lame, regardless of the backstory.

Yep just like the early days of the cruiserweight division 40 years ago. Similar to the cruiserweight division the division could produce an exiting fighter once every decade or so. I hope the division is ignored but if an exciting fighter wins a strap in this division it will go a long way in acceptance of the new division.
