Canelo will never agree to fight Benavidez for the same reason he won’t agree to a rematch with Bivol (at any weight). It’s because he knows he will lose. Canelo will choose a super middleweight tomato can or another super welterweight. The days of Canelo fighting top challengers are over. And the corruption of the sanctioning bodies means that no elite 168 lb fighter will have a chance at one of the belts until Canelo decides to retire.
The sooner Benavidez accepts this disappointing truth of the sport he’s in, the better for his career. A move up to light heavyweight and a fight with either Beterbiev or Bivol would be a great next step in his career.

Beterbiev has crested his peak but he's still a beast. Huge respect to Benavidez if he makes that challenge. No doubt David's ring IQ is high, and because his offensive skills have been in the fore up to now, we haven't seen him showcase his defense too much. But against Beterbiev, he's gonna need to rely on it much more consistently, because Beterbiev is a methodical hunter with a solid engine. I don't think I've seen Artur fade late in a fight.
