Comments Thread For: Zhilei Zhang On Deontay Wilder: "It's Easy To Fall, It's Harder To Rise Up"

I thought that was some very sound advice Zhilei Zhang gave to Deontay Wilder. Deontay has never been a defensive, stick and move type of fighter.
He should have stayed with what got him there; His offense and punching power. I thought Wilder looked both lost and confused following Malik's game plan.
What Wilder needs now is for Mark Breland to come back and teach him to throw and land those right hands of his again.

Wilder will do what Wilder wants to do. Usually power is the last thing to go. Inactivity compromises timing and makes it harder to land punches. Quickness suffers with age, IMO, as does balance. But remember George Foreman. The difference with Foreman though, is that he had a much deeper amateur background and a devastating jab. Deontay should really bear down on developing a hard, quick jab, to help him better control distance. If he can do that and train diligently he can still be a major force in the division. He knows better than anyone why he looked SO bad last week, and he must decide if he's still got the determination to dedicate himself to being the best he can possibly be. If he can't bear down and do this, he must decide to quit, for his own good, and go where his interests take him. Money should Not factor into this decision, IMO. Another option would be to talk to Foreman. I think George offered to help him once before, but for whatever reason Deontay didn't take his offer. It might be a good idea to revisit that offer.

wilder already rose up from the costume fight to give fury a hell of a fight in III
he went mad on drugs and the easy life & thats a very hard road back at 38 or so

Just fade away in Alabama, enjoying the Crimson Tide and your millions of dollars you made from boxing. Zhang is still relevant - at least for one big fight. Wilder had his chances and failed miserably.Last edited by joseph5620; 12-29-2023, 03:04 PM.joe strong likes this.

Sometimes guys like Wilder get beat down enough to have one last big show of a fight......maybe ? maybe not ? Zig Zag could fade like a Wilder also but his stock is high now and the reviews are making fighters avoid him or so it seems. the promo boys will make the money off the deals that make the most money for themselves and not what match up the fans want--- if we got the match ups we wanted well if we did these guys would all have about 12 more fights under there belts and several very interesting and fun looses inside the ring.El_Mero likes this.

The Saudi’s could offer Wilder 100 barrels of oil per day, for life and Wilder would still refuse fight with ZhangEl_Mero
