I don’t think Bivol will be able to keep Beterbiev off.

Don't think he said he was going to "scare" Beterbiev.
Are you kidding me ?
Bivol couldn’t fughin hurt or keep back little fughin Canelo
But he’s gonna scare Beterbiev ?
Make it realistic or just don’t go there
Doesn't make any kind of sense bless your trying to convince yourself
Bivol fight will be a replica of the Gvodzyk fight
I won’t lie and say that Beterbiev will outbox Bivol but slowly and surely will break him down for nighty nite
Gvodzyk fight was 4 years ago. That's a long time in the fighting game. What I saw last night was a long ways away from the Gvodzyk fight.
What did you see from Beterbiev last night when Smith was jabbing him? Not a whole lot. He just closed distance when Smith stopped punching and tried to use head movement on the ropes. Bivol is way better about staying off the ropes. He's got faster and better feet by miles than Smith. Gvodzyk doesn't fight anything like Bivol either. Bivol uses a constant jab that's coming from multiple directions. He's got a good lead cross to interrupt people coming in on him. So Beterbiev can't just walk in on him like he did with Smith. He's got to either beat him at jabbing or be able to counter, or be able to enter with head movement. We didn't see much of that in his last two fights.
Bivol also knows he's not the power king, and doesn't necessarily try to knock people out. Guys like Gvodzyk and Yarde and Smith were looking for that one power shot, and they set their feet and let Beterbiev beat on them. Bivol is a volume guy and works for points and gets damage in where he can. Beterbiev's defense mostly consists of high guard and stepping back in a straight line. Is he faster than Bivol?
Bivol knows his game. He's got stamina for days, and can maintain a high pace for 12, and he's hard to pin against the ropes, and hard to hit when you do. He has demonstrated that he can back a bigger guy up, especially if they're trying to rest. If Beterbiev thinks he can take rest periods like he did against Smith, he's going to be eating a lot of punches. He didn't open up at all when he was on the defensive either. Bivol's good at maintaining that outer range that Beterbiev was having trouble with in both the Smith and Yarde fights.
I just don't see how he gets his offense off. He's got to be in mid to close range to land his signature punch behind the ear, and what happens if he can't get there? As you said. Make it make sense.

Not sure if you read my post where I stated that Beterbiev looked like crap for the first six rounds

I don’t agree that anything good can come out of being shelved for a year , especially at his age
Your absolutely right that the Gvodzyk fight was long ago and yes things have changed since then
I’ll agree to disagree
Obviously your pulling for Bivol and when the time comes maybe we can place a wager
They need to fight for one of us to be correct and I’m hoping all the bullchit goes out the door and they get this done
Good post thoughComment

Agreed that Smith isn't much of a mover, but he didn't even have a choice. Another poster said that it appeared like Smith didn't stick to the game-plan. In a small ring against Beterbiev, it's gonna be very difficult to keep an active jab and active feet. Smith has a decent jab, but he's not used to circling. A small ring forces you to circle rather than going back in a straight line. I'd pick Beterbiev vs. Bivol if they fight in that same ring. Bivol has a better jab and feet than Smith, but he won't have enough space to maneuver and retreat from Beterbiev without getting caught. Bivol will get forced into exchanges more than he'd like to, and that's where Beterbiev would hurt him.Last edited by kiaba360; 01-15-2024, 01:19 PM.Comment

Not necessarily pulling for Bivol. I'm perfectly happy for King Artur to win. Definitely want this fight to happen.

Good post though
But it's an interesting stylistic matchup that's coming probably a little late for Beterbiev. He would have been the overwhelming favorite a few years ago, but I think now Bivol is really settled into his own.Comment

As usual,, boxing is a few years late

I don’t ever think Beterbiev would be a favourite as he gets no respect from the boxing community ( honestly as a Beterbiev fan , I’d rather that lol )
It is what it is
Imo , better late than neverComment

I think my favorite thing about Beterbiev is that he looks like a mauler, and he is, but he's also really precise about punch placement. Really impressive accuracy.Comment

I’ve said this many times before ; he does a little of everything not great but good
His biggest asset , in my eyes , is his ring iq and of course his power
He’s a very underestimated boxerComment
