To get the $100 million from DAZN, Wilder had to beat Breazeale on DAZN, Joshua had to win his next fight on DAZN, Joshua had to agree to re-sign with DAZN, Joshua had to agree to face Wilder, Wilder had to beat Joshua, Joshua had to agree to face Wilder again, then Wilder had to fight Joshua again.
Showtime was offering similar money to face Breazeale on Showtime, so the smart move was to face Breazeale on Showtime, wait to see if Joshua won his next fight, wait to see if Joshua re-signed with DAZN, and then negotiate a Joshua fight.
It turned out that DAZN ended up ripping off all of their top fighters anyway, refusing to pay Canelo and GGG what was promised. So even if everything had gone perfect, DAZN still might have screwed Wilder.
Whereas now, Saudi Arabia is offering Wilder way more than anybody for his next fight, and if he wins that fight and Joshua wins his fight, Wilder is guaranteed Joshua (again for a purse way more than anybody else would pay).
Deals happen when they make sense friend.
