The only problem is rankings, it will be at the behest of the Saudi Royal family and no one gets a say. If they control the game then they could if they wanted change the Queensbury rules to Riyadh rules of boxing.

You know what, fine I'm all for it, it would be better than what we have now.
Do we really need rankings ?

if the best of the best are fighting each other regularly in events like Riyadh Season they'll organically sort themselves into who's best and available/uninjured.

The Saudis need only organize 4 tournaments a year to settle on who the best is for that year and we wouldnt get promoters and orgs holding their strap to ransom by fighting cans and trading brown envelopes for years on end.

The only thing I'd be worried about is PEDs testing, fighters not declaring injuries and match fixing, but we already have that.

Its just for transparency to the public, UFC does it so you have some idea of what the landscape looks like. Spectator sports are for the audience after all.

Meh, let them take PEDs I say its a small compromise to have one champion per division and that champion regularly defending that title against the highest rated challengers who are so for sensible reasons I.E fights won in the ring and how they won those fights.

The Sauds could buy DAZN and install any muppet to run it for Bonaesaw and Turki.

Then why did they make him their partner ? Make it make sense .

I asked in this thread "what would it cost to buy the sanctioning bodies?"

I would like to see them all bought, with the WBO, IBO and any other fringe belts immediately mothballed. Return to the 80s/90s three belt era where there were rarely "interim" and other secondary titles. Improve on that though by encouraging/enforcing unification so we have a single champion in each division whilst retaining the brand legacy of the main belts associated with boxing.

They should do the Saudi Riyal belt aka SAR. Since they are giving so much of it away and overpaying.

I think they'd prefer to buy an existing organisation and make it the biggest.

The orgs come with history and prestige. Hard to create that, easier to just buy it.

Once a useful idiot is no longer of use, they're just another idiot.

They needed Hearn for Joshua and DAZN on this gig. Next one vs Wilder perhaps...yeah, nah, maybe ?

They also come with baggage and greedy bellies.

In Golf they could have sponsored PGA tournaments but formed LIV and paid huge money for the top guys to switch.

I dont know that fans give a toss about history and prestige of belts. This fan only wants to see the best vs the best and that hasnt been happening lately.

We don't even really know who the best is under the present ranking system for the various orgs.

                      Yes, and they should.

The notion of a world champion today is a joke. All the best fighters used to come to America - the money was here and thus most of the titles. That's no longer the case... fighters are spread all over the planet making money everywhere. How do you rank guys fighting in Alabama vs guys fighting in Ghana vs guys fighting in Argentina fairly? You can't.

And with HBO getting out of boxing, the sport has devolved in separate leagues, with each promoter having an exclusive TV deal. Smaller promoters like Dibella, Duva, Salita etc have been frozen out and just have to beg to have their fighters brought in as opponents or essentially lease them to the big promoters with TV contracts.

PBC, Matchroom, Top Rank should all make their own belts the way UFC does, and then do an event like Bellaton x Rizin if their champs are going to fight each other. End the corrupt joke of the idea that these sanctioning bodies don't just give out belts to the fighters of the promoters that give them the most money.
