  • Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder: You Can't Be the Face of Boxing When I'm Here Fighting Guys 20, 40, 50 Pounds Heavier than Me

Move aside Gervonta Davis and Canelo Alvarez--Deontay Wilder clearly feels nobody is more deserving than himself to be the Face of Boxing. In a recent interview, the former heavyweight titlist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, took exception to the notion that

Ok he’s had enough press time, please stop giving Deontay the microphone. There’s only so much he can talk before it becomes nonsensical

Deontay failed to mention that not only has he been fighting men 10-20% heavier than he is, he has been FLATTENING EVERY ONE OF THEM, and only one has gotten back up. Deontay has a point. Name another HW who has EVER done this. Go ahead, name one. Tank would have to KO 40 fighters from welter to middle to equal what Wilder has done. Numbers don't lie.

No, I agree, he has. What he’s been pulling is the sort of thing you’d possibly see in a 19th century circus travelling the globe.

I would simply ask why a guy doing this isn’t way more popular and richer than he is

I mean, this guy probably should be the face of boxing. It is largely a popularity contest, and ain’t nothing out there gonna make you more popular in this sport than knocking people TFO.

He needs to sit back and think why this isn’t the case tbh (and the point blame doesn’t fall on him here)

I think his antics after the Fury fight blaming his suit and all of that certainly didn't help his popularity.

That's the truth man. Wilder doesn't get the respect he deserves.

                Inoue Wilder. Let's do this!

HIs point is silly. A dude who weighs 220 has a lot of force behind his shots if he knows how to throw a shot properly. At the lighter weights, ten pounds can make a big difference. I have always thought that there were too many weight classes. But the rules are there so a guy who is good at cutting weight won't come in at 147 and then show up fight night rehydrated to 167.

You can be as heavy as you want at HW. And Wilder is a heavily muscled thin guy. He could come in at 240 with the right eating and training plan easily. Fury is 270, if he came in at 220 he would look like a stick with skin hanging. If Wilder wants to come in at 270 and learn to throw all that fat into his shots, he can. He chooses to fight at 220.

As the other poster said, turn the mic off. The dude is now saying he would fight any man in the sport regardless of weight. And he thinks it makes him logical. He sounds unbelievably dumb.

I get what he's saying because when he fights regardless if you like wilder personally or not it's exciting because you know he has the power to end a fight at any moment and it's usually pretty devastating so he has drew a fan base from that over the years. Yeah the opponents apart from fury haven't been the most elite but you could say the same about tank who people are crowing the new face of boxing his level of opponent has been so so an wilder to his point has been knocking out guys who are 30-40lbs bigger than him which would be like tank knocking out Bivol.

But In terms of the actual face of boxing stuff Im not really that bothered who it is I just wanna see quality fights and see the best fight the best and that's more important than arguing with folks about who's the number 1 draw in the sport

Definitely one of the faces of boxing. Most notably with one of Fury's fists smashing into it
