Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Says Garcia Asked For 143-Pound Catchweight vs. Duarte, Wonders 'Why Not At 140, It's Concerning'

Ryan Garcia made sure to march to the beat of his drum in his comeback fight after suffering a knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in April. Davis forced the blockbuster bout to be contracted at a 136-pound catchweight with a maximum 10-pound rehydration clause for the next-day morning weigh-in.

I guess Ryan now wants to do to others what Gervonta Davis did to him.

That or he isn’t disciplined enough to make the weight, or has just plain outgrown 140.

I would be so happy if duarte wins. Either making him quit but preferably knocking him tf out

If its not for a belt I never understand why weight is THAT big a deal outside of 135lbs guys fighting at 155 or something wild like that. As long as mfers are in the agreed upon weight with each other its fine to me. Or even if a mfer is over, but pays the agreed upon penalty for being over its fine to me.

People been doing this weight sh^t forever. SRL brought Donny Lalonde down to 168 so he could fight for Lalonde's 175lb & the new 168lb belt in the same fight lol. This A side weight sh^t has been going on for decades if not day 1 of boxing.

Funny. Some of these cats on another article were just goofing on Stevenson for challenging Garcia to a catchweight fight. Then this comes out. Wonder if the same energy will be given. Bringing a career LW up two weight classes to fight tells me he either wants to stay bullying smaller guys just to look cool for the internet or he might be struggling to make 140 already and doesn't wanna face guys his size. Either way, all his talk about being serious about the sport sounds like he just messing around trying get people to actually believe what he's saying. Attention will always be a drug for some folks.

If Ryan is having this much trouble making 140 imagine how drained he must have been at 136 for the Tank fight?

Ryan has been harping on about being weight drained by Tank while begging for a meaningless rematch AND then he does the same thing to Duarte. That is precisely what makes this a big deal. Other than that, you are absolutely correct.
