  • Comments Thread For: Jose Benavidez Jr. Criticizes Jermall Charlo For Non-Title Bout At Catch Weight Of 163 Pounds

Jose Benavidez Jr. lambasted Jermall Charlo for fighting him at a catch weight rather than in a 12-round, 160-pound championship match. Benavidez revealed Tuesday during a vitriolic virtual press conference that the contract weight for the long-inactive WBC

Does this guy really think that he deserves a title shot at 160 ? He'd lose the belt before he got back to his dressing room. Get real man.

This whole situation with Charlo is strange. From the near 2 year inactivity without explanation or being stripped, to this now 168 but not really fight to get back in shape. Just strange.

Especially because the WBC has a protocol for this exact issue, in which they can declare a champion in recess, who gets an immediate shot at the title whenever they return. They just did it to Devin Haney for fighting Prograis, Savannah Marshall, even Andre Ward. But not Jermall Charlo for some reason.

Charlo is finished. IF he shows up for this bout, Ill be very interested into what transpires. I believe he loses.

Charlo would be "champ in recess" if all the names hadn't followed Canelo to 168.

Even Golovkin, a career-long middleweight, said f*** this division.

Charlo's not going back. What's the point?

I didn't realize until now this was a 163lb catch weight fight. Wow Charlo really wants to stack the deck, if he is mentally done though he could get beat by anyone. If Jose wins it won't matter if the title was on the line, you know how fans will see it and he'll get big opportunity. He has to find a way early to make Charlo doubt stepping in there and not want to be in there, IDK if he can do it.

Why would anyone fight the champ if the belt isnt on the line?
