NSB Ignoring The Obvious: Everyone Has Overrated the Post-Klitschko Heavyweights

Wladimir Klitschko was an ATG, but look at his last 3 fights.

Bryant Jennings: Wlad looked old and slow.
Tyson Fury: Wlad looked old and slow.
Anthony Joshua: Wlad looked old and slow.

After Wlad-Jennings, all the sportswriters said "Woah, Jennings was impressive. He's the future of the division." Jennings never won a serious matchup after that, was objectively not a top-tier boxer AT ALL.

Wladimir getting old and eventually retiring opened up the division and made it more exciting, but that doesn't mean these guys are all that good.

You think Wladimir would have struggled with Francis? I sure don't.

When you look at it from that perspective, it's not surprising why a tiny guy with great fundamentals like Usyk has taken over the division.

Yes that is true, although a young Fury is a tough nut too crack since he is not bothered and ashamed by evading you for twelve rounds and raking in rounds with jabs and movement. Now that he is getting older it looks like he has lost a step, since his style is very dependent on his reflexes . Ngannou showed better fundamentals with his poise.

Completely. Master boxer my ass. He looked skilled against Wilder because Wilder has no fundamentals whatsoever.

its hard to compare different era's, this ngannou could knock over lots of guys, u would need to see him in a 12 round fight v another good guy to assess him properly, hes made a damn good start to his boxing career tho lol but people now see what hes like, it could make a difference

I don't want to revise history. The reality is that Tyson Fury beat Klitschko who had been unbeaten in over 11 years and 22 fights. What should be noted is that he was on PEDs during that campaign and served a 2.5 year ban for that infraction. His knockout victories over Wilder (only man that Wilder hasn't knocked out in his career) and Whyte were very impressive since he showed an ability to change his style from an agile boxer to an aggressive boxer-puncher.

Ngannou was a shock. It's the most shocking result I've been witness to since I started really following the sport in 2007.

Since Klitschko fight , that was 8 years ago, Fury only beat Whyte and Wilder as legit guys. Man, that is very bad activity.

We all shouldn`t be really surprised Ngannou embarrassed him. It is not like Fury is some proven top heavyweight with many wins against top 10 guys.

Klitschko was underrated for the incredibly successful part of his career for not having great rivals.

Fury et al are underrated for having no obvious single dominant figure.

Let's face it, no-one rates any current era. The past was always better. The reality is that the best are always pretty good. They have to be to get to this kind of status.

History will deal with these guys. Their resumes are what will count. Number of defences, unifications, undisputed, wins in the big fights against their rivals. That's where the current crop falls short. They're not fighting each other. They're almost in two brackets - the Wilder/Fury side and the Joshua/Usyk side. No-one has yet crossed that boundary.

It can still happen. The much heralded 90s crop had very few mega contests until they were all heading towards retirement.

Ive been saying it in here for years the HWs today are big lumbering giants that cant box I rarely watch the HWs since the super size became a thing, what Ive learned over my many years here is that the majority of this forum have no clue what they are looking at, its all love hate and jumping on every wagon that goes bye.
