Benavidez was also in theory signed to fight Morrell Jr according to his father and his promoter. Now they're all running their mouths like crazy to distance themselves from the fight. One wonders why...

That fight will never happen. None of these guys want to fight Morell because no money enough and getting for sure a beating that will ruin their business. The organization have to force these guys to fight him otherwise Morell is in the same situation like the hunger guy who still barking at 147 pounds and all the champions ignoring him...

How in the hell does he expect to stay in the minds of the boxing fans, when they don't get to see him fight on a regular basis?
At this point in his career Morrell needs to stay more active, because actions speak louder than words, and he hasn't been producing much action in the ring!
Sorry buddy but you don't have idea what're you talking about...

Benavidez is being diplomatic - he could have said that Morrell's trainer says he is not ready. And that goes for Plant as well.

(Ronnie Shields)“But I just think that I’ll take a clear look at it. Right now, do I feel confident that he could beat Benavidez or Caleb Plant? I think he’d give them all a run for their money right now. But I feel when this kid is ready, then we do that. I don’t wanna rush him into something. He beats Benavidez, then what?

Inoue had his first title after 6 fights. Loma in 3, and was two division in 12. Saensak Muangsarin won his first in 3. Oscar Collazo in 7. Kazuto Ioka in 7. Leon Spinks was unified in the heavyweight division (vs Ali) in 8.

I'm not necessarily trying to say that Morrell Jr is on that level because his promoter hasn't managed to get him many meaningful fights. I do think if there weren't an undisputed champion creating a log jam at the top he'd have a legit world title already though.

Having a good amateur pedigree often helps fast track you to titles and big fights, and having tons more fights doesn't guarantee anything about your performance at the top levels. Take a look at Munguía. Or Edgar Berlanga. He's got more fights than Morrell, but would any of you favor Munguía OR Berlanga over Morrell, because they have more fights?
The quantity of fights is just smoking screen for people that don't want to see their idol lose. I made some research about benavidez first 11 fights and 9 fights after that, 20 total, the first 11 why bother, the other 9 167-27 record, Morell jr first 9 fights 160-19, pretty close is it not? But the fanatics keep posting nonsense without any foundation. "he doesn't bring anything to the table", what about an @$$ whooping, or "he only has 9 fights", what about shut him up. They're not boxing fans, they're groupies, look at ennis, he's going to be 30 yo and 50 fights, nothing to show for it.

That was the first fight Shields had with Morell jr, fast forward two fights and he gave the okay. Do you think a renowned trainer is going to work a kid in his first fight, an agree to fight a killer like benavidez? He needs to know what he's working with. Didn't take much time, two fights later he gave the okay.

Morel moving to 175 to challenge either Bivol or Beterbiev would be very interesting, he certainly will get an opportunity at 175, quicker than 168.

Yes, we saying the same ish just in different ways, but agreed man morrel looks to be the goods! That’s a match up I would love to see eventually
