A great fighter and great career, and he should be proud of himself.
But he is one of the very best examples of how this once great sport turned to **** because of it's politics. And it's not on him.
-Everybody knows he was the best in the world for a number of years but politics didn't allow him to be the 'official' one for many reasons.
-The over-saturated belts, not getting the chance to fight the opponents so that he can truly unify and make it official. It's a disgrace for a fighter with this longevity to finally get that shot when he's 40 already.
-A number of opponents refusing to fight him. Because of this we'll never know how good he truly was or could have been.
-The attitude of critics, from 'experts' to fanboys alike. Discrediting wins based on weight arguments, belt arguments, age arguments, money arguments etc. etc. same old bullcrap that every boxer faces. Nobody is any good, it's always something.
The man was born in the wrong era as a boxer imo because he would have gotten way more out of his career if politics didn't stop him.
- Robbed Jacobs.
- Robbed Derevyan.
- Lost to former 140 lber much smaller Canelo twice. Never forget Canelo didn't fight at 160 before him and was one legged in the rematch.
- Tried to rob Canelo with BS 7-5 cards in trilogy.
- Got exposed and outboxed by WW Brook.
- Best real win is Lemieux who is Benavidez toyed.
- Overrated power and zero resume.
If you're an idiot, you gotta want his career. No doubt.
Never forget how canelo actually fought Chavez Jr at 164 before he fought golovkin at 160
Beating bums and losing every time he steps up is a great career I guess. Arguably lost to jacobs and derevyanchenko, lost to canelo twice and got exposed by a welterweight brook. Avoided lara and andre ward after claiming that he could beat giuys from 154-175 ibs, avoided mandatory jermall charlo, avoided andrade for unification when they were active, etc...
You forgot all those title defenses he matched Hopkins with the WBA. Only thing he had a baby belt. . One of the biggest frauds in boxing in the last decade. Oh and he ****** Canelo's name dry like a leech for 3 checks. DAZN deserved a 4 billion cash infusion after giving that slug equity for WHAT!
How many boxers had their own beverage line named after them? I am such a big fan of GGG, I am trying to figure out some way to get his GGG Energy Drink delivered to me here in Las Vegas. I found some links, but they are kind of sketchy. I'm still not done searching though. I was at GGG vs. Canelo 2 live and that was so much fun!
