I wonder how the Tyson fight goes had Larry had a tune up or something. Not just fought Tyson after two years of retirement. Hell, seven years after the Tyson fight, Holmes lost a WBC title shot 114-113 to McCall.
I see the point but the wins and close losses... How do they affect the legacy of Holmes? as compared to Hopkins (for example) who really creates a conflict in his later career post 40 by beating some great fighters.

I think Holmes coming out of retirement, and almost beating Holyfield, and beating Ray Mercer are HUGE.

Mercer was undefeated, and was fresh out of that Tommy Morrison KO. Nobody expected that.

RJJ should have retired after the Ruiz fight he’d be the GOAT. Sticking around just lowered his reputation.

Chavez should have quit when he was 88 or whatever and 0.
