Martin didn't want that smoke. He felt he needed to be better compensated to sell that 0 on his record. Belt on the line was irrelevant because he wasn't winning it.

Probably because he accepted the deal, then bailed with the contract in hand. I don't remember that even being done before, where a fighter agrees, accepts, etc. etc. and THEN ducks once he realizes he's in over his head.Comment

I don't know how many fans really liked Stevenson. I didn't. I always thought he's always under Arum's protection program. Every time I see him fight it's always in a showcase fight. I've always wondered, "Man, when is this guy going to be in a real fight? Can't they even give him Berchelt or someone known?" Even before Arum made the Valdez fight he wanted an elimination round first, Valdez vs Navarette and Stevenson vs Berchelt. Guess which fight was tougher for Valdez at that time?
That's why I don't understand the point of Martin turning down the fight. It will never make sense.Comment
