He said this before the first fight with Joyce. That he had options on Jimmy’s next few fights. He could put him in with Dubois next. He could swoop in & take Wilder out of talks with Hearn/Joshua & have Jimmy fight him instead on the Fury/Usyk undercard or have them headline their own fight.

Talk about a grimey promoter. Tosses aside a fighter for losing twice to the same guy and just hops onto the winner.

For Jimmy to get the fight with Joyce he probably had to sign a deal with Warren. This is not uncommon. Don King used to do it all the time. When Haye had no belt & Wladimir Klitschko wanted to fight him he wanted Haye to sign a slave contract where if Haye won he had to fight both brothers. Haye refused. Vitali was trying to get Valuev to fight him in a unification fight but instead Don King served up Valuev to Haye. Haye won the WBA belt & now had better negotiating power. King had options on Haye’s next 3 fights. His man Ruiz, a PPV vs Harrison & then the big fight with Wladimir. If Warren was going to risk Joyce’s mandatory spot he would only do it if he had options on Jimmy’s next few fights.
