Comments Thread For: Joe Joyce: It Wasn't Like I Was In Too Much Trouble; I Could've Continued Against Zhang
Joe Joyce is sure he could've continued to trade punches with Zhilei Zhang when their heavyweight title fight was stopped in the sixth round April 15.

Lad, you were busted up, hurt, buckled, swollen, and thoroughly beaten up, I care not what the biased judges cards said. That man beat you pillar to post
Joe has size and a hard head, but he's slow, he lumps up and he doesn't have one punch power. Trading is his best chance, but 3 to 1 isn't a fair trade. Joe is looking at his high water mark and he might drown.

I think what he's trying to say is that this is normal apart from the eye swelling up.
I re-watched the fight and I think Joyce is right. Zhang started wanting to touch gloves from the second round, acknowledging the effective work Joyce was doing. That said, I don't know if Joyce's eye has healed up enough, but he definitely will do better in the rematch. If his eye holds up, he wins on points

Yup, acknowledged it so much, he kept punching him in face as an extra gesture. It’s nothing more than excessive sportsmanship on Zhang’s part. If his eye didn’t hold up in the first place, why should it hold up now? He isn’t changing anything tactically, except having more weight, as far as we’re aware.

I saw Zhang land at will on Joe. His eye got bruised. But this time if he gets clocked the same then it could be a cut or two that opens up or blocks his vision, or maybe his chin just gives in - to avoid that he has to fight much more defensively but if he does that his offense will go down. His best bet is to hit and run for 8 rounds and go for ko in last 4 rounds or just keep hitting and running.
I'm thinking Zhang will get the KO but I can see another scenario where Joe will get a controversial decision.
