  • What do u guys consider as a legitimate excuse for losing?

Often times we hear fighters throw out excuses for losing a fight, some are reasonable but some are just flat out b.s. excuses.

What do you guys consider legit excuses for losing a fight?

1)For me, if a fighter were to sustain an injury during a fight(yes, it's boxing, but, if you're not performing at your best against another prizefighter, then you're definitely at a handicap)

2)Another one for me, is if the ref was doing a ****ty job, that can affect how a fight is gonna go.

3)****ty judging, ie Van Hoye in the Malignaggi fight, also, one of the judges for the PAC - Juanita I(yes, it was a close fight, but, the fact of the matter is, a judge literally screwed up and later publicly admitted he screwed up the scoring, in what would've been a victory for PAC)

Now, what I consider illegitimate excuses for losing a fight, being weight-drained, man, I think most fighters, if not all of 'em are man enough to know what is best for 'em to be able to perform at a high level. Actually, this excuse is mostly used by fans, I don't really hear the fighter themselves use this as an excuse. And if being weight-drained is used as an excuse, give me a reason as to why one would think that draining themselves(literally starving themselves for days) would actually serve them well at the highest level of prizefighting?

The I should've, could've, would've done this, excuse. The reality of it is, you didn't!! The fighter generally prepares himself 2-3 months of intense training prior to the date of the fight. That is alot of time to correct your mistakes and improve on your skills to give yourself the best chance at victory!! Better luck next time, buddy!

What happened to Vitali in the Lewis and Byrds fights I would say were legitimate excuses.

I would have to say an injury too... Like an accidental bad cut over the eye where he/she can't see. Also if the boxer doesn't get to wear his choice of glove LOL...I know some of you might think it's funny but I do think it will effect a boxer confindence...it's not as bad as the cut though.

not following the game plan, being weight drained and over the hill when you're not, are legitimate excuses.

You can correct mistakes all you want in the 2-3 months of training and feel 100% prepared to fight, but that one night you step in the ring for the real fight is something you can't really prepare for 100%, therefore mistakes are always gonna happen on fight night although you did all you can to correct them in training camp.

^I'm sure any one on here who has trained for a fight can relate to this.

A broken hand is a good reason.

Well not with the Lewis fight because it seems like a legit cut. The fight was weird because I remember one time they showed a clip and I remember the cut over the eye was due to the lace of Lewis glove.
