Why Does David Benavidez Get A Pass For BLATANTLY Ducking Morrell?

He's not getting a pass, so much as he is generally irrelevant in the larger boxing scene.
Nut huggers and hardcore fans aside.
People aren't knowing him any amount to know what he is doing or not.Comment

You are the type of people I'm referring to. You CANNOT use the term "high risk low reward" when referring to someone like Benavidez who is not a cash cow by any means. Once AGAIN, why does Benavidez get a pass for looking for a money fight, but other fighters get outrageous expectations. As I stated, people criticized Canelo for getting 300m from DAZN and fighting CHAMPIONS in a new weight class. Benavidez gets a pass for asking an unproven 160lb in Munguia to move up and fight him.Comment

No, I'm a boxing fan and I'm tired of the double standards on this site. Guys like Lomachenko, David Benavidez, GGG, and Shakur Stevenson get a ridiculous amount of passes that other fighters don't get. Shakur Stevenson actually said he deserves a 50/50 split against the undisputed champion I a weight class that Shakur hasn't done **** in who is also a bigger draw than him and people on here actually agreed like wtfComment

I had never heard of Aidos as a high or even any level prospect. I had never even heard of him at all til he signed to fight Morrell tbh. Being that he was as far into his career undefeated I assume he was at least a regional or low level prospect with hindsight tho & the fact he was a Canelo sparring partner adds some credibility to him. Idk about who did or didn't predict him to upset Morrell so can't comment on that, but I do know he was about a -1000 (90% implied odds to win) fav to beat him which doesn't suggest there was much upset expectations by most.
That said even fast tracked I think there is at least one or more fight(s) of more substance between a top 10, top 15 type guy that'd be a 4 or 5 star fight on boxrec that proves that he has earned a big fight & its a smoother jump up in class. Right now going from Aidos, a punching bag, a losing Shobox guy & a cat Liam Williams stopped as his top 3 opps isn't a good resume going into a fight with a top 3 (David B, Caleb, Canelo) type cat. The ideal fight for me would be vs Mbilli, another undefeated prospect who's highly considered & needs to bump up his resume, but any top 15ish guy would be his best opp thus far.Last edited by garfios; 09-02-2023, 08:40 PM.Comment

I get it the high risk, that's what benavidez is to canelo. The thing is, or he moves up or fight Morrell Jr, because canelo ain't fighting benavidez, he is been his mandatory for a while now, on top of that the Cuban is the mandatory for the WBA, my guess is that canelo has to be taken to court to defend his belts.Comment

I didn't know who Aidos was, some fans were commenting that Aidos could punch, was a good amateur and could take a punch, he after all has koed the only guy that went twelve with Morell jr. So we're on the same boat, Mbilli is another prospect not as advance as Morrell Jr. If it was for a vacant belt the fight will make sense. I'm 100% with you on him fighting a thought vet, but not many are willing to face him, so what is next? Whoever sign the contract, and deserving has nothing to do with that. At this point anything less that a name or a ranked fighter, is going backwards. He was about to test the water on his 6th fight, hearbs took his guy out Twin City the same night, ryder. Be safe
Ryder & Derevyanchenko would be good vets for him to fight too if they could be made. Derevyanchenko probably isn't top 15 anymore but he'd be a great test for Morrell all the same.Comment

You don't need to be a cash cow to calculate risk vs Reward. Benavidez is not a prospect he is a 2 time wc and the established No 1 contender in the division for 3 years, while Morrell is a kid with 9 fights and never even fought a top 10 guy. Pretending they are on the same career level is insulting. Morrell brings literally zero to Benavidez , no real belts, no ranking position, no money, only a moron would waste his time fighting him at this stage of his career.
Morrell is not on his radar so it can't be a duck. Benavidez on the other hand has been dead centre on Canelos radar for years, plus is a huge ppv fight, so that is why that actually is genuine ducking.Last edited by Oracle01; 09-02-2023, 08:56 PM.Comment
