is vitali best HW ever for judging and controlling distance?

i think finally people are realising that despite a slightly awkward looking style and stance he's a master at judging and controlling range, distance and perimeter

how many HWs past or present can/could get away without a high guard against renowned punchers and never be in trouble simply through the abilty to eliminate their danger through clever movement, jabs and footwork

i dont think vitali would have had any trouble with either of them. lewis was suscepible to complacency, vitali isnt.

honestly, there are maybe a handful of HW's that can box with his use of timing, repositioning, and skilled appropriate use of punches.

most everybody, because they have heard the name Ali thousands of times will include him. well, in this case, he should be included. jack johnson was another masterful fighter who could combine defence and offence - it is just hard to get video of him so i can only judge from what i have seen and read about him.

not many else unless one were to skewer the standards and definition in the sense i am speaking.

there are more than a handful that could keep an opponent at a distance, and had good timing. but combining that together while adding a substantial offence to the mix is extremely rare to see. even lennox lewis maybe a fringe name on this list, in the context i am speaking of.

and i'd just like to make it clear that i rate lewis VERY highly and like him as both a person and a fighter so i'm not some random hater. just think he was susceptible to random losses whereas vitali isnt.

agree. vitali has better defencive skills also. so, even when tired, he is not easy to hit and never just covers up. he, gasp, BOXES.

i agree with that as well. he was very skilled and great as a fighter. but they are different fighters.

i hope this doesnt turn into a VK vs LL thread. this is a nice topic.

it's why lewis v vitali was such a war. they had such similar styles, though not stylistcally if that makes any sense. both big men who patrolled their perimeter so well. when they met someone of simialr size with the same tactic and similar strength their only option was to trade as they were sort of neutralized agianst each other and it just turned into two monsters scrapping

and what a spectacle it was!
