When the fight didn't go thru. He chose the next available option in Berto. A top 5 WW. I don't understand the whole dissing Shane cuz he is willing to fight the top fighters. The only top fighter he won't fight right now is Paul Williams. That is only thing I hold against him is not facing Paul Williams. Anything else, IMO is just Floyd nuthuggers trying to make a ****** argument on why Floyd shouldn't fight Mosley.
Ugh. You use that "nuthugger this/that" language, too? I was thinking/hoping you were above that.

Floyd should fight Mosley. AFTER Floyd fights the winner of Pac/Cotto.

Shane can wait. If Shane was willing to wait a year before, he can wait a year now. And that "next year" was duplicitous to the extent that Merchant (Shane's biggest fan) called him out on it.

I use the nuthuggers. Cuz their are nuthuggers out there. There is a difference between fans and nuthuggers. Fans wnat the best for the sport. Nuthuggers want the best for their fighter.

Floyd and Shane could be made right now. All honesty Mayweather-Pac/Cotto won't start negotiating until 2010 and you know that. And, it will be a long negotiation process. While a fight with Mosley would be easier to negotiate. He is available now. So why not fight now? But, I don't care when they do get it on. As long as Floyd fights Mosley while Mosley is on top of his game. I am ok if he wants to make him wait. But, it makes all the sense to fight Mosley right now. Unless he actually thinks Mosley can beat him.

Whe you say that Floyd and Shane can fight 'in the interim", I'm thinking that you mean end of Jan-ish...right?

Well, that timing doesn't really work. And this is not a "nuthugger" perspective. If Floyd and Shane start negotiation TODAY, they can hammer out a deal for , say, mid-late jan. That means that Floyd goes back into training camp in late nov. Assuming Floyd wins in Late jan, he starts fight promotion for a Cinco de Mayo date (preferred) immediately thereafter. Another six-eight week training camp for an early May date.

A big fight promotion takes months. Not just for the negotiation phase, but all the behind-the-scenes stuff that the less-informed fan on here is not aware of:

Negotiation of a date/site fee with the casino

Meeting with potential corporate sponsors and negotiating endorsements

Clearly, there would/should be a 24/7. How does that fit into HBO's schedule and budget. And production logistics?

Scheduling of venues and travel for press conferences.

Scheduling of the subsequent HBO WCB card to play the week-after replays.

        Etc, etc.

The january/may timeline is extremely compressed. I think you would agree. Sept/jan/may? Three fights in nine months? When is the last time PBF has done THAT? Pac has had 3 fights in twelve months, and that has been a heavy schedule.

In this instance , there are two things that are duplicitous:

Arum used the phrase "sold out". Well, not really. The brokers are your sales partners and they have seats.

Second item is that all of the seats were not made available.
true but you have to understand most here do not realize the practices the promoters use to squeeze money out of an event so you have to explain it to them and not assume when they see TM doesnt have seats available doesn't mean they are doing well at the box office

and very true on the 2nd part

they said for Hatton Mayweather maybe 2500 seats were available for public consumption initially

Presently at TicketMaster, only $1,000 seats are available. But tickets are available through brokers at all price ranges.

Tickets are always available through brokers no matter how sold out the fight is. They are always available. Or you can always find a scalper.

I spoke with a trusted insider who said that this fight is not doing big business, and there were troubling signs for the gate. I was skeptical because of the Arum pronouncements - even keeping in mind that Arum often inflates his numbers.

Well, it's true. Contrary to earlier pronouncements that the fight was "sold out"....

                a) The MGM Grand, the host hotel, has not sold out of rooms. Hotel reservations for that weekend in Vegas, on the whole, has not ****ed.
Avg rates that weekend include $117 at the Hard Rock, and $152 @ MGM.

                b) Ticket brokers have seats available in all sections, at all pricing levels:

                c) More troubling, TicketMaster has plenty of seats still for sale and is still promoting sales for the fight.

                d) Some available seating sections have yet to be opened at all. Attendees of the Cotto-Margarito fight may be aware of how the MGM can "section off" some seats.

If this fight (which is expected to be a FOTY candidate) can't sell out, is that indicative of the state of boxing? Or more indicative of the inability of either Pacquiao and/or Cotto to galvanize fans?

                What are you guys hearing?
I remember everyone saying the same thing about Floyd/JMM with only one week left....and they did fine. Now considering the Pac/Manny fight is a month away Im sure it will be fine too.
I also tried to get 2 tickets a month ago and they only had 750 dollar seats way in the back.

the day of the fight two of my friends scored $1000 seats for 600 a pop. Ticket brokers were begging people to snatch up the tickets add to that the promoters papering the crowd, the event hotel giving free tix away and you had an inflated crowd
