2 things! One, Benavidez is not Mexican. He is Mexican American at best. Two, neither May 5 nor September 16 are American holidays. Those dates are Mexican holidays. I am not familiar with any Mexican American holidays.

Fair point. I think I al correct in saying this is a huge fight on one of those days.

Ok. I apologize for the mistake. I meant no offense.

It's quite simple (in response to some of the people above).

If Canelo is ducking Benavidez, then Crawford is ducking Boots. If Crawford is not ducking Boots, then Canelo is not ducking Benavidez.

Once we actually come to grips with that simple statement, Canelo's response makes perfect sense: he wants them to fight each other so he can see who might be worth fighting if he can deal with the three in front of him. Hell, if Benavidez took the fight and beat Andrade, he might get slotted into #3.

First, Canelo is now under contract to fight his next 3 fights under the PBC banner, and saying that Andrade has no business being in the ring with Benavidez will negatively affect the revenues of that fight thereby hurting the PBC. Second, on the off chance that Andrade beats Benavidez will also have a negative effect on the revenues of a future Canelo vs Boo Boo fight.
You really think Canelo took all of that into consideration when he was randomly asked to pick who would win?

50/50? Andrade is going to get whipped EASILY. I’d pay to see that.

Or he could possibly stand his ground by trading punches with the much younger, stronger and larger Benavidez then run the risk of possibly getting himself stopped.

I guess it's very possible that Andrade could win on points but it is highly unlikely. I expect him to do exceptionally well early in the fight like Caleb Plant did.

However, by the second half of the fight; I could see Benavidez super imposing his will, physical size and youth on the much older Demetrius Andrade as he goes into survival mode like Caleb Plant did.

The reason being is like Plant; "Boo Boo" lacks the punching power to fight the "Mexican" monster off him.
Benavidez is overrated as a puncher in my opinion. I think Andrade can beat him, but I really want Canelo to be the one to do it.

May 5 is more American than Mexican. Meaning nobody in Mexico, save for the little town of Puebla where that battle was fought celebrates Cinco de Mayo. They celebrate it here as a reason to get drunk.

I am not saying that people should not celebrate that historical event or Chinese New Year or any other ethnic holiday. The Cinco de Mayo "holiday" celebration among Mexican Americans is not deeply rooted in Mexican American culture as you say. It is of recent vintage. It began after the Chicano movement started in the Southwest and breweries and other American companies figured out they can sell more product to that community by promoting that holiday and making it more popular. In fact, May 5 is not that big of a deal in Mexico. Do some research and you will find little mention of Cinco de Mayo before the 1960's.
