Comments Thread For: Mayweather Defends Canelo From Cherry-Picking Accusations: "You Proved Yourself Already"

The road Canelo Alvarez is traveling is one that Floyd Mayweather was once on. The disrespectful comments, the constant chastisement, and the so-called "cherry-picking," labels all sound familiar.

Salute to Canelo! He's done it all! Now just give us the Benavidez fight, and ride off into the sunset!

smh.. it's always "just 1 more fight"... if canelo beat benavidez then it'll be someone else that canelo is ducking... just like mofos saying canelo need to fight GGG, then that happen, and now it's "canelo is ducking benavidez"...

There is very high interest for a Benavides/Canelo fight especially if Canelo wins his next fight and if a fight of Benavides/Andrade where David comes out with the win.

It would be a huge fight and one of the biggest ones in boxing. But there is always going to be with the top fighters that he didn't fight this guy or that guy or the timing wasn't right.

Not a fan of the preferential treatment he's received, but the man has traded punches with some great fighters.

Agree with Mayweather, to where he's done enough to fight anyone he wants and not fight anyone he doesn't want to give that massive life-changing payday to.

Benavidez isn't a bad fighter, but he couldn't put away a gassed-out clencher in Plant in a weight class he's big for. He had a whole second half of the fight to pull it off. The goal is to beat the common opponent better than the guy you're chasing, and he just. couldn't. do it.

Canelo still may end up fighting Benavidez as part of this PBC deal. The haters shouldn’t have anything bad to say about him anymore after that…but you know they will find something anyway. Because that’s what haters do.

While Mayweather is correct in stating that Canelo has already proved himself, that's true as far as the history book's are concerned.
That said if Canelo want's to be considered pound for pound the best in the sport, or the current face of boxing he has to fight the best fighters in his weight division.
There is a huge debate about how good his last few opponents were, and if they were the biggest challenges that he could've taken at the time.
We all know the answer to that question, now Jermell is definitely the best fighter in his division, but that's 14 pounds below Canelo's current weight class.
Although Jermell has the height, reach, and possibly the speed advantages over Canelo, once he adds those 14 pounds or more.
That extra weight is probably going to affect his overall performance in the fight against Canelo, and if that turns out to be the case.
Jermell is going to be in a world of hurt, trying to keep the heavier Canelo who will be banking on Jermell being slower, to apply significant pressure to break him down
On the other hand if Jermell can handle the added weight without it affecting him, by slowing him down, or tiring him out for the duration of the fight.
Then we're going to see a damn good fight, a better fight than Canelo's last few fights, and a fight in which he can lose, because he has lost a step or two.

for boxing purists. not ppl who worship a management company/promotional company etc. I have never seen ppl more excited for someone to shut up and retire, more than ppl were and are for Mayweather Jr. his legacy is always proceeded with the words 'carefully navigated' when talking about him. so anyone else who cherry picks etc, he loves to stick up for them.
