I don't like to diminish anyone's struggle with mental health. That being said, he should have been named champion in recess immediately upon notifying the WBC of his issues and consequent inability to defend his title in a timely fashion. The fact that the WBC is letting him behave this way and holding up the division is proof positive of how bad they are for boxing.

Because people have been whining for years for him to fight Jermall. He had a chance to get Mall inactive and rusty, and still be able to say "what do you want, I fought the guy you wanted." The haters are always going to have something to say. No matter who he fights, there's going to be a narrative about him ducking someone else. If he was fighting Morrell or Benavidez, I guarantee people would be saying he was ducking Charlo, Andrade, Bivol, Beterbiev, or even Crawford. Is it a cherry pick? Sure. But the haters have already proven it doesn't matter who he fights, they're still going to criticize.

I didn't think it was Canelo making offers. This is PBC. Canelo thought he was going to be fighting Mall, not Mell, but Jermall pulled out last minute and they put his brother in. Canelo was just as surprised as everyone else. If you want to blame someone, blame Jermall. He's the one who has been sitting inactive for 2+ years and couldn't even take the Canelo payday.
