This is a weird timing issue for Charlo. I feel like, deep down, he wants to be the guy that gives Crawford a loss since there is so much talk about Crawford now being P4P #1. Crawford just wrecked his stablemate which adds to the drama. Spence is good friends with the Charlos. Crawford is all over the news right now. Instead, he's moving up in weight for what is probably going to be a loss in return for a mega paycheck.
If the timing was different, I imagine Charlo would have loved to face Crawford at 154lbs, hope to beat him (I doubt he can), then go up to fight Canelo for that monster check and take the "L" while he wipes his tears away with millions of dollars in the bank.
I personally would like to see weight cuts banned. ONE championship is IMO doing a good job showing how that could work, and enforcing it by making fighters who miss weight ineligible for the 50K performance bonus. Making weight is essentially a whole other sport, and I'd prefer they fight closer to their walking around weight and focus on their skills. If I wanted to watch people cutting weight, I'd watch something like bodybuilding competitions or CrossFit games or whatever.
I'm not a Sports Medicine Doctor, but i'm sure these commissions could get consultation to find a good 30-Day Limit. For example, if you're fighting at 135, you have to be no more than 150, 30 days in advance, that way they know the fighter can lose the weight in a healthy manner. Maybe that would discourage guys from trying to cut weight during fight week, and allow the time necessary to find a replacement. I don't like "Same Day" weigh-ins, because, in my opinion, that wouldn't do enough to dissuade the weight cut, and most fans have already paid for their tickets.

The question no one seems to be asking is "Why is Canelo making offers to a fighter @ 154, when he fights @ 168?"
I can't believe Charlo is about to get knocked out real soon. This is crazy!! Canelo is gonna menace this boy's face and his big ass cranium and splatter Jheri Curl juice, blood, and snot on everyone at ringside

Yeah, I have no idea how this fight came about. Perhaps it wasn't just him involved but his management. They're like, let's get a recognizable name for you to face, even if he's 2 divisions lower. Honestly, the Charlo bros have both been out of boxing eyes for awhile lately. Sure, they show up at events, but they haven't been in the ring in some time. They're going to be digging up years old highlights to market Charlo.

I didn't think it was Canelo making offers. This is PBC. Canelo thought he was going to be fighting Mall, not Mell, but Jermall pulled out last minute and they put his brother in. Canelo was just as surprised as everyone else. If you want to blame someone, blame Jermall. He's the one who has been sitting inactive for 2+ years and couldn't even take the Canelo payday.

Because he wants to fight a known name whom he feels he can beat, rather than fight his mandatory challenger, David Benavidez, whom he doesn't think he can beat.

Jermall fights at 160. Canelo wanted him because he's a recognizable name but he hasn't fought in two years, and he's had mental health issues.'Mall would have been the perfect cherry pick. To suggest that Canelo isn't the one picking his opponents is naive.
