How about making boxers accountable for taking long layoffs?

if i was a betting guy & the guy i wanted to bet on to win, was coming from a long lay off, i would be like hhhhmmmm, not so sure about this, i like to see guys fighting regular and well & they tend to continue that way until injury or meeting a guy better than them in the ring, i think

Like the thread title says, I'm coming from the same angle. I don't bet and majority of the audience don't, casuals and hardcores alike.

The layoff is not anybody's fault but the fighter. He's solely responsible for what he does as a boxer. Canelo, for example, makes sure he fights twice a year. The rest don't even care. And if I am a betting guy, it would depend not on the layoff factor. It would be on a guy with a winning mentality. Of course, we can agree to disagree.

Lemme just put it out there as a reminder.

We need to explain why they're given slack for not expecting them to do well in their next fight as if it's someone else's fault they chose to be inactive. I can understand when it comes to non-established boxers, because they're rarely offered even stay-busy fights and at the mercy of various factors working against their favors.

the fighter in question charlo had a hand injury (like canelo did his last 3 fights) who said im not using the hand injury as an excuse but i read today from charlo, I had a hand injury LOL

i knew that was coming of course, it almost always does, from canelo too of course, its just human nature, the ole classic 'im not making excuses but.......' line

its just makes people feel better

Fans just love babying their fighters. I'd bet any fighter would brush aside the layoff excuse for poor performance because in the back of his mind he trained like a horse and made sure all boxes have been ticked.

You're missing the part where fans use it as an excuse for poor performance as if it's some imaginary entity's fault for the layoff.

Excuses don't reallllllllly matter tho. You win or you lose. "Boxing" doesn't care why you lost. Fans care sure, but it don't reallllllllly matter. The goal is to win. Not to lose or lose with the best reason why you lost. Not fighting for over a year probably does hurt your chances to win, but thats the situation a fighter might be in going into a big fight.

And there's ALWAYS something going on in someone's life. Guys go into fights with all kinds of sh^t & they win all the time. If you can win with sh^t going on then who gaf if you lose with sh^t going on. The fighter who says they woulda won IF x, y or z happened are either bsing or misplanned their situation or taking a fight at all I'd argue more than it matters to anyone except to them & their most loyal fanboys of course.

charlos not too bad in that regard, he was a twice a year guy up to the pandemic in 2020 and then fought castano twice 10 months apart, the gold standard for the once a year crowd is gary russell JR LOL, now that guy is seen every xmas type of thing, he was very happy doing that as well btw and made a good living from it, he was a bit delusional about stuff if i remember too but whatever floats your boat i guess

Fans know more about the fighters than the fighters know about themselves. I don't think these fans are willing to hold these fighters accountable for their inactive ways.

Anyways, you lose, or got robbed, and that's about it. No amount excuses will erase the lost. Like they say, you laugh and the whole world laughs with you, you cry and you cry alone.
