I can understand when it comes to non-established boxers, because they're rarely offered even stay-busy fights and at the mercy of various factors working against their favors.
some things are out of their control and sometimes they talk themselves into a hole with pressure from fans and media. Same thing that happened to garcia happened to Spence. Ryan was getting crucified for calling out tank and the fight not happening. So next time around when they was supposed to fight they both agreed to fight someone else before they faced each other which was weird to me. Ryan complained about it and didn’t go through with it but tank did plus the weight cut didn’t help either.

in Spence’s case he said right after his fight with ugas which was 15 months ago he not fighting no one else but Crawford. I’m pretty sure he was not expecting it to happen a whole year later. But negotiations dragged and Crawford took a tune up fight and was getting slaughtered and I mean completely slaughtered for it. People forgot Spence was going to fight thurman at 154 in I think March and people was complaining about that and the fight would have most likely got pushed back again or who knows if Spence would have got stripped or not want to come back to 147. Spence kept his word on everything even though it ended up hurting him In the end.

I would just assume the TS is talking in general terms not specifically about Spence.
Best example is Jermall Charlo, who says,

"After Canelo Fights My Brother, He Has To Fight Me!"
It wasn't officially confirmed, but just about everyone was convinced that Jermall Charlo had finally hit the jackpot. A few weeks ago, Canelo Alvarez formally announced that his next three ring appearances would come in conjunction with Premier Boxing Champions. Charlo, shortly after, was widely recognized as the first fighter that would meet Alvarez in the ring.

Yet look at him, he's not even interested in taking a tuneup in preparation for the fight.

You're missing the part where fans use it as an excuse for poor performance as if it's some imaginary entity's fault for the layoff.

There are legit cases like injuries; boxers not being able to get fights because no one wants to dance with them. One example at the top of my head is Edwin Delos Santos, who beat a showcase fighter, then took almost a year for him get his next fight. He would have had the same length of time looking for his next fight had the Stevenson fight not materialized.

That's true. Frank Martin is his stable mate, yet Frank would rather fight a guy name Harutyunyan. I doubt Martin vs Santos will ever happen, even it's an in house fight.

The ranking system is meant to do just that. Would love a decent, enforced, ratings system but we have what we have. ****house enforcement, or you can choose to recognize the totally unenforceable boards like TBRB. Either way, ain't **** going to force boxers to box. Everything we make up to keep them in line just gets bought out and corrupted.
