Because the fighter moving up is facing an even bigger challenge, for a much larger purse, in a fight where the opportunity may not be there for long.

so why would he pass that up to fight a lesser fighter, for lesser money, and miss out on the opportunity that may not be there ?

I think it’s kinda dumb for guys to win undisputed and then keep defending all 4 belts against mandatories. Unless you’re a heavyweight and have no other division to climb to, you should move up and / or fight the biggest names possible. You’re already proven to be the absolute best in that division. Go make your money / make history by proving you’re the best in other weight classes !

I’m happy to see this Canelo fight and personally hope that if he’s competitive in it he fights Bud next. Let Tszyu have that WBO belt for now and re-unify w him later once the bigger more interesting fights are done.

Listen I don't agree with Thurman being ranked over Ennis.

But the fact is he is the bigger name and more accomplished name, and the fight sells more than an Ennis fight.

Besides, I don't even think Ennis is ready for Bud.

Physically and talent wise he may or may not be on par with Bud, but his lack of experience will be his undoing.
