Sergio, like Haney, was waiting to see if a massive fight would be finalized (this was "Mayweather is fighting Martinez in Dubai" era). The WBC eventually wrangled his 160 title off of him too.

If you are not a draw, you don't get to keep the titles.
They took his WBC belt for wanting to fight someone they didn't approve of, then gave it to Chavez Jr. and let him fight that same ****ing fighter IIRC.

Yep - Martinez's mandatory was Zbik, but HBO said Zbik was a nobody and wasn't going to permitted to fight on their network, and that they needed him to fight Sergiy Dzinziruk if he wanted to appear on HBO and continue to do so. Martinez was not a big financial draw, so he couldn't go against HBO - he'd be fighting for absolute peanuts on Showtime.... this was back when Showtime had a tin budget.

Then the WBC stripped him, and HBO agreed to televise Chavez Jr-Zbik for Martinez's belt.

It was later revealed that HBO was obligated to give Dzinziruk an HBO date because it was guaranteed as part of the negotiations with Gary Shaw to make Bradley-Alexander.

Martinez got screwed every which way.

Had Wilder fought Ruiz so there was an official mandatory from the eliminator and if Fury was talking about possibly moving to a different weight class, then yes, there should be equivalence.

Given Wilder and Ruiz can't even agree to fight, let alone actual having a result, then there is no equivalence. The WBC is a shltshow at the best of times and no-one should be happy at Fury's inactivity, but as has been discussed a nauseum, strictly speaking Fury isn't clashing with the WBC's own regulations currently. At LW there already is a mandatory who is pushing for their shot, hence the ticking clock. It is a slightly different situation.
