Devin Haney is back on the clock. A call to action has been issued by the World Boxing Council, who has confirmed Shakur Stevenson as its mandatory challenger at lightweight. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Haney has until end of business Friday to confirm whether he will stay put at 135 or next campaign at junior welterweight, where he would be installed as the mandatory challenger to next face WBC titlist Regis Prograis (29-1, 24KOs).

Haney is going to drop the WBC and WBA belts because he doesn't want that Tank or Shakur work right now after looking mediocre against Loma. Maybe if he beats on his WBO or IBF mandatory, he can get his confidence back up.

He was talking all of that Tank shxt everytime Davis had anything going on just to ride off of his name and stay in the spotlight. Now ever since Tank called him out during and after the promotions of the Ryan fight, its been silence..... crickets. Tank is home and free, still silent. All of that talk before, only to hide when it becomes a realistic possibility.

This is just like when Sergio Martinez won the belts - he wasn't a big financial draw so the organizations wanted those belts off of him IMMEDIATELY - he got stripped of his 154 WBC title the day after the fight, then the WBO stripped him of the 160 a few weeks later. Sergio, like Haney, was waiting to see if a massive fight would be finalized (this was "Mayweather is fighting Martinez in Dubai" era). The WBC eventually wrangled his 160 title off of him too.

If you are not a draw, you don't get to keep the titles.

He could have 2 big fights in Tank or Shakur, he's looking for an easier option because he isn't confident that he could win either fight. Prograis, even after giving a sub par performance his last fight, isn't an easier option or Haney would have signed or entered negotiations already. He's trapped.
