  • Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua Wishes He Had Linked Up With Derrick James Much Earlier in Career

Anthony Joshua wishes he had linked up with veteran trainer Derrick James much earlier in his career. The former heavyweight titlist from London recently opened up about his time so far with Dallas, Texas-based James, while offering some critical remarks on his former trainers, particularly his longtime coach Robert McCracken. Joshua, 33, praised McCracken but claimed that the head of Great Britain's Olympic boxing program never properly taught him defense. He cited, half-jokingly, as evidence the famously misshapen nose on retired super middleweight champion Carl Froch, who was trained by McCracken.

So if he somehow gets KTFO by Whyte will he keep James as his trainer? Will he blame him for the loss?

Hes not gonna be some different fighter all of a sudden. Hes the finished article, and probably in the early stages of physical decline tbh. I think he'll spark Whyte within 6-7 rounds but it wont mean much for his stock or the overall outlook of the division. Thats why its such an underwhelming and pointless fight, if AJ wins like he should it tells us nothing, its a washed up version of a guy he already beat ages ago.

I wonder if he'd say this if he did badly in his next fight.

But yes, James must have something good, to train Spence and Jermell. He seems like a trainer/ teacher who is a straight talker.

Once AJ got beat up by a short fat Mexican kid he no longer is the same killer. Happened to Wlad as well. He had to completely change his strategy once he became a ***** who's afraid to get knocked out.

If he gets knocked out by Whyte, he's finished and needs to retire. And I wouldn't be surprised if he blamed it on James.

Joshua has noone to blame but himself for what's happened and where he is in his career. He surrounded himself with a posse of yes-man because that's the kind of flakey, insecure guy he is.

The more I hear AJ speak, the more I'm convinced he's got an IQ of about 80 and the equivalent emotional intelligence.

Not a moron per se but below average. As the way he said out loud 'I realised you have to be aggressive you can't just keep them off you' is yet another hint of low intelligence.
