  • I think this is being misinterpreted because Haney worded his thoughts poorly. I think he's not blaming Mayweather, but rather saying his perfect record makes boxers afraid to take risks, but he doesn't say Floyd didn't take risks. Knowing his respect for Mayweather I bet if he is asked to clarify he would clear it up.

Just off the top of my head, I can think of an example that makes the insinuation against Mayweather false. Pacquiao wanted no part of Cotto at 154. Mayweather stepped in and took the fight. If Cotto at 154 was dangerous for arguably the #2 of that generation of boxers, surely it was a dangerous fight for #1.

Cotto: Does Pacquiao Fear Me? Mayweather Will Go To 154

WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto is counting the numbers on the check. Puerto Rico's biggest star told Raul Alzaga that his final decision, regarding his next opponent, will be determined by money. Cotto and members of his team are evaluating two possible scenarios - a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, or a rematch with Manny Pacquiao on June 9th - also in Las Vegas.

As BoxingScene.com previously reported several times, the agreed-upon weight is an issue with the Pacquiao rematch. When they first met in 2009, Cotto was forced to meet Pacquiao at a catch-weight of 145-pounds. Now a champion at 154, and being pursued by the two biggest names in boxing, Cotto will not budge from his position of refusing to fight below 150-pounds. Pacquiao is refusing to fight Cotto above the welterweight limit of 147. However, Mayweather has no problem with fighting Cotto at 150 or above.

"I will not fight below 150 pounds. Mayweather Jr. said he has no problem going up to 154 to fight me. Pacquiao is the one who objected and wants me to once again come down to a weight between 145 and 147 pounds. If Pacquiao had no trouble going up to 150 to fight Margarito, why is there a set requirement for me to go down again? Does he fear me? If Pacquiao wants to fight me again, it must be above 150 pounds. I will not continue to sacrifice my body to lose weight," Cotto said.

      • Mayweather fans please don't be mad it's understandable that mayweather duck those fighters because if i'm on his shoes i will do the same just to protect my undefeated record.

Pac destroyed cotto, so pac is not obligated to even give a rematch, let alone give cotto pick of weight he wants rematch in?I
When pac destroyed cotton it was generally accepted cotton was never going to be thevsame, no coming back from that. Floyd is no hero fighting cotto at 154. The fact cotto somewhat recovered from his brutal loss to pac, and came back seemingly showing no scars from pac defeat, cotto gets all the praise, floyd can get no credits for that.

None of that changes that Pacquiao would fight Cotto at 145 but not 154.

Mayweather stepped up to a challenge that Pac turned down. It is what it is.

You want disrespect pac for offering cotto a rematch at 147, a guy pac brutalised, are you sadistic or something. Where was floyds rematch with Nell at 154?
You want to give floyd praise for fighting pacs used goods, but not discredit floyd for not fighting thurman, spence, bradley and brook? Id give floyd more credits for fighting one of those 4, and also fighting outside backyard giving rematch to pac and Nell in their backyards ideally

Where did I disrespect Pac? I only stated what happened. You're deflecting to a whole lot of stuff that has nothing to do with my post.

These folks can't defend their idol without degrading Pacquiao, who's got like 8 loses already. I guess this will always be the case with TBE Floyd. The way to give props to him is not by mentioning his accomplishments, but by degrading the Pacman.

Thread is about Haney's making comment about Mayweather. I'm absolutely sure if Haney isn't black these Floyd fans would have accused Haney of being a Pac fanboy.

What Haney said is clear. Top fighters of today won't fight each other because they're afraid to lose their zero. He blames Floyd for it. Was he propping up Pacquiao? No. But this is what this poster is conjuring up. Eight loses and we still have these side by side comparisons. Hilarious strange fans.

I didn't degrade Pacquiao. I only stated a fact, and only mentioned him as he was arguably the #2 greatest boxer of the time and at the same weight as Floyd. That shouldn't make anyone upset.
