Rewatch the fight and listen to what Kenny Porter told Shawn and to what he said afterward. Kenny admits that he stopped the fight because Shawn didn't prepare the way he wanted him to and wasn't executing in the ring, not because Shawn was out on his feet. Kenny Porter didn't save his son from harm. He saved is own ego (he fancies himself a master trainer) from further damage and punished his son in the process. Kenny is a megalomaniac who thinks his son orbits around him instead of the other way around. Thankfully he has a loyal, dutiful son who forgives him for his arrogrance and disrespect.Comment

Robert and Mikey Garcia were trained by their father, Ham Johnson and Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson were a tremendous team. So is Bozy and Boots Ennis today. Hell, Denis "Mama's Boy" Douglin is trained by his mother. No two people are alike. It depends on the chemistry between parent and son.Comment

I don't think it should be banned but I don't like father trainers. I feel like father trainers have a lot of downsides like they don't deal with big fight pressure as well as their sons so they run their mouths off or they take the spotlight away from their son and make it about themselves. And when their son starts to lose and get outclassed they panic and don't know what to do or say and their son goes back out for another beating. Or they let their sons override their father's decision in a match, like with Gabe Flores jr. or they let their son control the training camp, giving them more leeway then a regular trainer. On the upside side though I can see a fighter feeling reassured that his father is in his corner, they've got chemistry together, and a father may be able to draw out a second or third wind in their son. However I see more father trainers who tick the downside list then the upside list.Comment

Don't forget:
Shingo Inoue, taking Naoya to legend level and Takuma, who doesn't have his brother's gifts, to a world title.
Anatoliy Lomachenko with his son (and Usyk).
Tim Bradley is one of the worst commentators.Comment

Why is it ignorant. Because it didn't work for him it doesn't mean it won't work for everyone else. He just threw a blanket statement without giving it too much thought.Comment
