Tyson Fury vs. John McDermott I - How did you score it?

Due to some archaic system at the time, this fight was only scored by the referee. You'd have to assume that if there were three judges, Fury might not have been as lucky.

John "D Cup" McDermott has said that Tyson's dad told him he'd really won the fight.

You need to bear in mind that this was only Tyson's eighth fight, he was a novice, but somehow the referee scored eight of the ten rounds for him.

    What do YOU think?

For a fighting man like fury who was doing it since young, having 8 fights isn't such a valid reason

Big John was OK. Fight was close enough to grant him a rematch, which was done.

The commentary was anti-Fury and as it often does, influences a neutrals card who lets a commentator score for them. I had it 97-93 Fury. At that time there were many HW's who would have beaten that version of Fury, so I never understand why so many people make such a massive deal of this fight. Even several fights after this Fury was still nowhere near what he became - Firtha, Pajkic, etc. He won this clearly though. Took at least 6 rounds on the cards of any seasoned boxing scorer.

There is one moment, maybe in round 8, when Adam Smith goes crazy about some incredible power shot that Mcdermott just landed, the problem was, the replay showed he missed by about a foot! And that kind of comes up the commentary on this fight, with David Haye as well, the man who gets every prediction wrong, fully rooting for Mcdermott. Nash out.

Like afew others here on this forum, I have pretty much watched Fury's entire career as it happened.

I did not score the fight round by round 'I just thought it was a close fight'.

All that clumsiness you see there from Fury, is still innately who he is as a fighter.

To Fury's credit, he re-matched Mcdermott 'But Neither performance from Fury was that impressive skill for skill'.

Skill for skill I personally still think Fury is overrated 'When you actually analyse his attributes'.

But what makes Fury a great fighter is? He gives it a go in all areas 'Long range game, Mid range game, Inside game, Rough House game'.

In that regard Fury is a complete fighter 'But there are other heavyweights who in my opinion have superior individual attributes'.

Fury against Mcdermott showed resolve and certain aspects of a rough house game 'It was only when Fury started to train under Peter Fury, did his performance ceiling and operating window increase i.e Fury's Mid - Long range game started to develop more' etc.

Poor John McDermott was robbed no doubt.

Tyson was beat up, bullied and hurt. He knows it too. Very lucky man.

On the bright side, if John didn't give him a pasting would Tyson have just slipped into being ****y and never got this far?

It's worth noting btw that there were no judges outside the ring for this fight.

The 'judge' was 'reliable' referee Terry O'Connor who raised Tyson hand immediately after the bell, nothing to think about.

The fight was than ordered for an immediate rematch by the British Board due to its 'controversy'.

It is, that's why I noted it in my post.
