Also, expect that union to be a hot mess, pure mess, the amount of money spent within a union paying salaries to staff and lobbying and lawyers would dry that fund fast as hell. Also, who is gonna pay the premium when 70% of licensed boxers carry a full time job, less than 30% of boxers exclusively make their living from the sport. So he expects dudes who are part time boxers to pay full union dues. This only benefits boxers with big names, the average little known boxer is barely able to pay their bills. How many times weâve seen guys earn 5k for a fight, 10k for a fight, and thatâs before all their expenses.
The union should be for those no-name boxers first. And the first thing is that the unions should be set up by the state commissions and they should pay into it from their cut which comes, I think, from the promoters.
It doesn't have to be much - but enough to buy all boxers insurance against life altering injuries and then also they could qualify for a modest pension based on how many fights they take in that jurisdiction.
We've all seen those fighters with a 18-54-5 record - and they are still fighting. Being that they have been on the losing side 54 times you have to assume they have taken some long term damage - they might not be ok to find other employment after their boxing career - those are they guys who need looking after most.

First of, nobody forcing you to hold on to the belts.

Secondly, you get paid way more when you have the belts and you get much better promotion and advertisement than you would if you didn't.

But you wana complain about a measly little 3 percent?

      Get out of here.
True words. They pay those tiny percentages but are forgetting that most times those same belts increase their earning power by multiples

its not the same. Having one of those superstar actors in your film immediately brings in much more money at the box office even if its a crap film. Plus with so many films being made Tom Cruise can act in another film, do commercials, sit on his bum and take a 5 year break if he wants - nobody is stripping him.

The orgs get to choose who is the mandatory and charge that 3% or 12% in Jermell's case.

But without the belts he earns less - so he should just zip it and enjoy being a champion.

I agree. Many of these "lower echelon" guys don't even rely on their contracted purse. They have sponsors or small investors hoping for their guy to become a money-making machine someday. Unfortunately, not many of them are in this category.

It's a very disorganized sport where it's impossible to set sensible rules to. And if Charlo is sincere, he should at least share a focus on these lower echelon guys, instead of only him. What is a union for if you're not one of these little guys?

That's what make this sport very disappointing to be a fan of. They're extremely inactive, and they think they're entitled to everything. He can't even throw a few crumbs of info when he's going to be back and not a clue about his so-called injury. The queen is clearly taking as much time as she wants.

Charlo , sorry to say but if all aligns up right , the Saudi’s are looking into forming some kind of org with one belt
They’ve also said that money is not their objective and would get a % of what the fighters bring to the table
Meaning some would be bigger than others , so small fish can actually swim without getting chewed by the big fish
This of course is all hearsay and hopefully true to a certain degree
We all know these boys don’t need the cash but they do need the good publicity

Spence is complaining about these ABC orgs a week ago, and now Charlo.

To me the solution is simple. Give up all those belts and start fighting in title-less fights. I still believe fans watch title-less fights.
