Or the haters would whine about bringing him up two divisions. The haters are never going to be satisfied, so he might as well take the opportunity to beat one of the guys the haters wanted him to face when he's weak, because like it or not, he'll be able to say "I already dominated that guy" and none of the reporters will dare bring him up again.

Or, he could just fight his mandatory, David Benavidez and defend his undisputed SMW title, first. Then we "haters" would have nothing further to complain about.

Yea ol" Eddie is trying to now spin this as we're going to make all the big fights now by using the money we're not paying Canelo to pay all the other fighters. So expect a lot more Liam vs Liam here in "Murica over the next 2 years. Man just give it up and accept that you loist and finally go away!

You don't understand the mandatory system?

Benavidez is ONE of 4 mandatories that run in a particular order. Morrell is likely next up with WBA. IBF would be next. Then WBC, since Canelo defended against his WBC mandatory Yildirim during his run to undisputed. Then WBO last, since that was the Ryder fight.

Unless the Golovkin fight counted as a WBA mandatory, the WBA belt hasn't been defended since Canelo won it. The last IBF defense was 2021.

Any other fights are voluntary defenses. He doesn't have to fight Benavidez until Benavidez' turn in the rotation comes up and WBC orders the fight.

How do you people not understand this? Benavidez has earned his shot, but that doesn't mean it has to be now. If you want to talk about who Canelo HAS to fight, that's the next one up in the rotation, and since the 168 belts for WBA and IBF haven't been defended in 2+ years, those are the next ones due.

Well there was never the question that Canelo would move weight

But even fighting Jermell at 160/168 would be better than fighting Jermall. That’s how bad Jermall is as an opponent. Over 2 years without a fight, and he has struggled with opposition at 160 before the inactivity

We'll never know because Mall chose to sit around inactive waiting for a Canelo cashout. Nobody forced him to do that. If he isn't at his best and loses, he's got nobody to blame but himself. Canelo is on the slide anyways too, so maybe he'll still have a chance.

I didn't say Canelo has to fight Benavidez next. But given that Alvarez fights whomever he wants, wouldn't it be nice if he actually WANTED to fight the "Mexican Monster" next, instead of a rusty, mentally stressed Charlo?

The excuses will never end towards C'Nelo.

Seeing all this hate towards Canelo makes me wish he annihilate all of his next 3 opponents.
Wanting to see Canelo fight a young guy who is at the top of his game and twice held a belt that he now holds, isn't hate. It's a challenge. This is boxing, right? Let's go!

I have spent the last ten years confused about the hype on Canelo, and hoping he would be the guy they were building him up as. He was a product of hype, period. Good fighter who has a great chin. The dumb masses were sold "Canelo is the face of boxing, a Mexican superstar", and they ate it up.

I wish he were a killer. Now he is 32 and apparently unable to beat any top comp, so we all now get to witness the Canelo farewell retirement tour, where he will beat guys who don't box anymore and other **** guys. Than we can all say, man, Canelo earned this. Wtf?
He did beat great fighters lol. The only people I see complaining are PBC fans but if you don't care about the promoter then you see the fighter fpr who they are.

What makes Benavidez a killer? The guys biggest win is Plant who Canelo easily KO'd.
