The man is an idiot. He has more leverage for more money and a bigger fight with the belt. He could have waited until a mandatory was enforced at the very least. Unless this all for show and the text to Paco also included a secret agreement.

Lopez is "Paul Spadafora" 2.0.... Paul still to this day cracked out out of his mind tells everyone he beat the Great Floyd Mayweather....Then him and his dad tries to hound Floyd down to this day for money asking....BEGGING for a rematch.

Although it wouldn't have been easy, I think he could have pulled it off with the right matchups and maturity, at either 135 or 140.
You're damn right! Moreover, he was never an undisputed champion anyhow. It's because that WBC belt was not a legitimate title. It was a Franchise title.

Which was designated exclusively for Vasiliy Lomachenko in order for him to duck his mandatory challenger Devin Haney. So in reality, Haney was the real WBC lightweight champion all along since he was the who held the lineal title.

Besides, Tayo's only claim to fame was by defeating two older and diminished fighters who were past their primes; With one having a bum shoulder.

This retirement is probably about protecting his future assets in what looks like an impending divorce. His "wife" seems t be coming after him for half of "everything". If he's "retired" that makes calculating any future earnings very dicey. Might be a smart move.

So what if he is retiring? Who gives a damn? No one is going to kiss his ass to make him stay because The 135-140 pound divisions are stacked and loaded with talent.

This motherfucker is singing the blues without paying any dues. He has allowed his envy, jealousy and bitterness toward black fighters; Especially Devin Haney to force him into an early retirement.

So just let him to continue to pout because no one owes him shit! Haney has worked his ass off to get where he is today. No one has ever handed him a damn thing. He had to grind and hustle in order to get what he got and wasn't spoon fed shit.

He had to travel to Australia in order to defeat the champion on his home soil twice while taking less money in the process. So Good riddance to Tayo! He won't be missed. The racist low-life piece of shit!

Since Devin 'The Dream' Haney is the undisputed champion and current WBO titleholder at Lightweight; Perhaps, he should consider moving up to 140 in order to challenge for that vacant WBO title. They should order it between himself and Jose Ramirez.

Many fighgters before him made that ''I'm retired'' speech only to come back

                Same will apply to Teo.

How does a guy go from demanding 9 figure pay days to retiring

Naw. The WBO rankings are full of Top Rank fighters as usual.

Barboza and Jose “La Gallina” Ramirez are next in line for that belt.

Only reason he's retiring is because he doesn't want any future earnings to be considered once his divorce goes through. They'll only be able to go off of what he currently has which is realistically what, 3 million?

Once his divorce is finalized and she's allocated her severance/alimony/child support, he'll unretire and be back in the mix. Actually quite smart of him.
