  • Comments Thread For: Derevyanchenko's Trainer Confident Mungiua Would Lose a Rematch

Always a bridesmaid but never quite the bride, Sergiy Derevyanchenko has had the sort of career that leaves him little to no room for error. For the Ukrainian native, winning a world title has always been at the very top of his agenda. But after suffering close defeats at the hands of Daniel Jacobs, Jermall Charlo, and Carlos Adames at 160 pounds, the now 37-year-old believed

Considering their ages, I would tend to believe that Munguia would be the one who would adjust better in a rematch. But I respect Chenko, he's given a lot of top guys hell.

Mungia fights one way and has never adjusted and i wouldn't expect him to start adjusting now. If they fight again it's gonna be another war of attrition. Some fighters just mix well and make for entertaining fights

When Derevy was boxing Munguia had not answers. Munguia was successful with the jab when Derevy was not active catching his breath or taking the round off.

Derevy spent a lot of energy during the rounds when he got Munguia hurt so pacing himself will help. But at the same time Munguia did land good punches especially to the body.

It's easy for Derevyanchenko's trainer to be confident when it's not his health on the line, but his fighters.
Derevyanchenko should retire already, because he probably has 2-3 more good fights left in him.
His mind, body, and spirit will pay a heavy price for entertaining the fight fan's.
He left a lot of his prime years of boxing, while fighting in the amateur tournament's in Europe.

...if the rematch happens in Derevyanchenko's back yard otherwise the outcome will be the same. Best Derevyanchenko can do away from home is get a ko so he can get a draw.

And a war of attrition would favor the younger guy. And also, Munguia has already made some adjustments to his game from years back, while I'm not saying it's something drastic, he was more flat footed and used his jab less a while back, so he's already done adjustments.

If De La hoya is wise he would move on. There is no need to cash out one of his young, bright and potential future stars like Jaime Munguia against a cagey veteran as Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Notice all the people trying to say move on…that fight was close and a fight of the year but folks don’t want them to run it back…showing your cards people. Mungia imho needs the rematch to redeem himself win or lose, also folks forget this was 12 rounds, score it as such and stop hyper focusing on one knockdown, Mungia spent an entire round moving like the drunken master yet nobody talks of that as a 10-8 round with how dominant that round was, but they’ll focus on a great body shot. Mungia and his fans or fans of other boxers who want their guy to take the scalp need to stfu and sit down. This should be ran back, no if’s, or buts about it.

With the amount of punches Mungia has already eaten at his age calling his a future star is laughable. This dude is gonna retire early like many other fighters who eat as many punches. Just because you have a chin doesn’t mean it’ll be the case forever. As we’ve seen, he can be hurt, and each match of his he’s taking heavy punches to the head. This is no defensive guru who is suddenly going to change that. Watch boxing long enough and you realize guys like Mungia don’t last long without selective opponent matching, and he’s only now starting to step up in class and already has a ton of mileage and damage to his body and brain.
