This fight will do very little for me. Navarette needs to go after the guys on the very top. He's been around longer and got recognized earlier than Valdez.

When is Navarette going to fight a top dog?

When you look flat and can't perform in every fight after you get caught using PEDs, and the same happens to every other fighter in the gym, even people who were willing to give you the benefit of the doubt start asking questions. Canelo also hasn't looked good since the scrutiny has prevented him from eating Mexican tacos. Not a single fighter from that gym has looked like a world-beater after they got busted.

It's going to be a ****er.

Navarrete had a bad weight cut against Baez and Wilson's size neutralized Navarrete's physical advantages along with the fact that Vaquero was climbing up a division.

I am aware that Navarrete shares a lot in common with Berchelt in terms of handspeed and punch output, but the former is very difficult to time (counter) as he tends to dictate the pace and you never know where his punches will land like Venado Lopez. A hook to the body could end up as a devastating upper cut like it did with Pitufo Diaz.

in the other hand it's obvious that Valdez is the more athletically gifted of the two being quite explosive and if he finds a opening, he has the power to end the fight at any moment unlike Navarrete who relies on accumulating damage despite having solid pop. Oscar has an average gas tank but recovers very well. His Rematch with Adam Lopez was just to shake off the 1 year ring rust so I think he will put a better fight next time, I think he underperformed against Coincecao who should had won (whom he himself got a gift as he got dropped by Luis Coria twice and should had been below in the scorecards) due to being discouraged about testing positive and gave a better performance against Shakur despite that it just wasn't enough to win the fight, Shakur was just too good.

My take is that it will go to UD, where Oscar will start explosively (possibly rocking Vaquero in multiple occasions in the later rounds) until Navarrete gradually takes over, not letting Oscar's gas tank recover with his workrate.

Wars take something out of you and this becomes a war, then both fighters may never be the same again. Wishing both of them the best. Come fight night there can only be one winner. I always liked Valdez but his failed ped test left a sour taste in my mouth. Hopefully he’s staying clean and fighting fair.
