If Canelo was a honorable man and a proud Mexican, he would give Benevidez his shot. He made his money, he will retire soon, and he should pass the torch to a young and talented countryman. But he won't, because he isn't.

Your logic is sound but, you forgot the behavior displayed by Benavidez in the past years. Like Andrade, he used the Connor McGregor strategy to get the fight. I still believe Canelo will continue to make them beg indefinitely as payback. Canelo is just sitting back and enjoying this.. just my opinion so I may be really wrong about this.

Canelo stands a much better chance of beating Benavidez than he does Bivol. Even if he loses, he can retire on the pretext of “passing the torch,” and he can join the Pro Golf tour which honestly seems to be his desire lately. This guy. Canelo already has everything. What Benenvidez offers him is the biggest fight out there but it's also down to Benenvidez to make it as big as it can be. That's what Canelo really wants. It can be bigger than it is now. So go beat Andrade or Morrell or Charlo if they are still boxing and have the biggest fight next year. Canelo may need to beat Bivol too of course.....

Canelo is going to fight Benavidez next. Bivol trying to dictate terms is basically a non starter. Benavidez and his team are doing the right thing, applying the appropriate pressure and I believe it is working. That said, am one of those who believe Canelo beats Benavidez and when he accepts that fight and when he beats Benavidez, I wonder what the haters gonna say then.

I actually like the Beterbiev fight for Canelo, just because Canelo has such great physical strength that I don’t think he’d be bullied to the ropes, and he could probably outbox Beterbiev in the centre of the ring.
