Ratliffe? Ribalta? Biggs? Carl Williams? It's tomato can city. His first defeat was at the hands of the first bum who realised that once you saw through the Tyson hype machine there was a terrified young man with a lot of psychological issues looking back. Easy meat.

Tyson fought two top heavies. He was beaten senseless twice and was disqualified in the other. He shouldn't be anywhere near top 30, let alone 10.
    spinks , berbick , ruddock , holmes , tucker , bruno , pinklon , tillis , tubbs , bonecrusher , williams , biggs......

you do realize all these guys were top 10 fighters right?

Quick note: "Bum"...so Douglas was a bum now? Same Douglas who beat Oliver McCall, the man that knocked out Lennox Lewis?

A lot goes into fighting and you have to be at your best to perfrom well. Both Tyson and Douglas proved that point which is why it makes a good story. Tyson was a considered a "small" HW in a Big HW era.
      i agree.

the tyson was unbeatable guys are annoying but the tyson only fought bums guys are ******ed too.

tyson beat almost every top 10 guy ever rated in his championship run and unified all 3 belts.

people seem to forget that a past it tyson was putting top 10-30 guys like savarese , etienne , golota , etc. to sleep.

Douglas WAS a bum. If you want to know a good judge of boxing ability ask a bookmaker. And just about every bookmaker on the planet had Douglas down as a bum. The odds were astronomical - even by the standards set by some of Tyson's earlier opponents.

The fact that he KOd McCall means very little as McCall's form - as well as his mind - fluctuated like a needle registering an earthquake from week to week.

a bum does not get rated in the top 10 by ring magazine for 5-6 years.

maybe 1 or 2 years a hypejob gets on there but not for a number of years on 2-3 occasions.

btw bookmakers does not make boxing lines on ability.

they do the lines to get bets.

mike tyson was the most popular fighter at the time and with his reputation people don't bet on his opponent unless they are getting massive odds.

I'm saying top 10 ALL TIME.

Ali gets automatic entry because in defeating Foreman, Frazier (as well as Norton and Liston) he has all the evidence he needs. Ditto Frazier.

None of the guys you list above (with the exception of Holmes, who was so far away from his prime he couldn't see it) would get anywhere near the top 10 heavies list.

That's because it was the respect shown to IRON MIKE TYSON...as well as Douglas being known to be an up and down fighter in his career. When he faced Tyson, he put together a string of wins but nobody was going to bet on Buster except for whoever that
"1" better was. Why bet when it seems a given Tyson was going to win.

When Douglas got motivated, trained hard, he went on a winning streak. He then beat Tyson (although Tyson was down at that point)...and then once Buster won the title, he reverted right back to fat lazy Douglas because he got paid.

holmes was definitely past prime but it was still a good win.

                      holmes was still capable.
