Who has fought better opposition, Floyd or Calzaghe?

Floyd has.....but Calzaghe did something Floyd has NEVER done......clean up a division!!!.....too bad for Joe his division was weak because I think that accomplishment is rare these days!!....both dudes deserve to be saluted IMO!!!

Floyd - mainly because of the weights he's climbed. A hell of an achievement.

But Calzaghe deserves more respect than he generally gets around here.

B-HOP: Undoubtedly good opponent.
Kessler: I'm pretty certain that if Kessler had based himself in the US early in his career he would have made P4P top 10 easily.
Eubank: On the slide, but still very dangerous. A tough, tough guy for a young kid like Calzaghe to make a name against.
Reid: A criminally underrated boxer who had a world title STOLEN from him by Sven Ottke and pals.
Lacy: Sure, he's shot to pieces now. But he wasn't when he entered the ring to face Calzaghe. Only a very brave few backed Joe to win. Not surprising given the swathe of mayhem Lacy carved through the weight division in the run up to the fight. But let's get something straight. Lacy was a limited fighter who overrelied on power, but it's not hard to see why when you look at the results. On that night Lacy was handed one of the worst, most comprehensive twelve-round beatdowns I've ever seen. It finished him mentally as a fighter and his body seems not far behind.

Add to this solid victories over the likes of Bika, Mitchell, Woodhall, Veit etc and the facts that he retired undefeated, unified the division, won the RING magazine title up a weight. That's a damned good list of achievements in any man's language.

I mostly agree with this. Reid and Eubank are criminally underrated - you are right. They were both very good.

Also, I would like to LAUGH at all the Americans discrediting Joe's win over Lacy when back in 05' they sat down in front of their TV's with lotion and kleenex and were waiting for Lacy beatdown on 'that guy from Wales'. This was also coming when Joe was past prime and Lacy was a prime animal.

What a beatdown - performance of the decade so far - IMO.

Calzaghe > Any American boxer this decade above 160 (yes that includes Jones).

Calzaghe's resume is not nearly as bad as some people on here make it out to be but Floyd is still leagues ahead

I think Floyd's win over Diego Corrales is better than nearly every Calzaghe, with the possible exception of Hopkins. Same for his wins over Castillo. I think the rest of their resumes are on par but Floyd is comfortably ahead at this point with a few years more to go.
