Completely agree. I definitely thought Loma should’ve gotten the decision, but I can understand how people saw it differently. To be clear I was rooting for Lomachenko and I predicted on these boards that he would win by TKO in the 11th round, so I was super frustrated that he took his foot off the gas when he had Haney tired and buzzed in the11th.

We don't know what these guys are being hit with that they are hiding. There is a reason he stopped his attack in the 11th and did very little in the 12th. He was either tired, got hit with something he didn't like, or bothLast edited by TheOneAboveAll; 05-22-2023, 09:05 PM.

He for sure should have learned from the past and left it all in the ring. But I think he needed a KO. I would honestly not have been concerned about this decision, outside of that crap from Moretti, if I hadn't seen Top Rank call Haney the winner before the fight ever happened. They were acting all week like it was a foregone conclusion that Haney would win, and spent a ton of time pushing an "old, spent Loma" narrative to try to justify it in advance. But Loma spoiled the script by beating Haney after all.
That being said, unless Haney was on it, it sucks for him, because he really did a good job being competitive and keeping it a close fight, and his stock should have gone up. Instead he's back to being the paper champ. He did much better than I was expecting and I think he honestly would have come out better for losing a tight decision than being given a gift by the judges. It's hard to respect a guy who's being protected by corruption. Nobody will care about future fights with Haney, just like Rolly is a joke. He's a good fighter, and he proved that, but this crap is going to hang over his career forever.TheOneAboveAll likes this.

It would be more forgivable if judges were encouraged to use the full range of the ten-point must system, i.e. a close round is scored 10-9, a dominant one 10-5 (or whatever), but as it currently stands 95% of all rounds with no knockdowns are scored 10-9, so any round which isn't scored even is all or nothing.
Would it put a stop to corruption and biased judging? Of course not. Nothing will ever accomplish that in a sport in which the result is determined by subjective means. If you're focusing on that you're wasting your time. This is about making an honest judge's scorecard more accurately reflect the overall picture of the fight.

There's nothing wrong with the current scoring system. Both fighters go into the fight, indeed each round knowing what the rules are. If anything, fan need to educate themselves on the system and evaluate fights based on the SYSTEM, not on who they thought won.buddyr likes this.

I have sat ringside at fights and the seats suck compared to being slightly elevated over the rope height where you can see everything clearly. They should be in a back room with no commentary and other officials watching them so there's no funny business between them.

A fighter may dominate a round clearly and get a 10-9. His opponent may barely edge him in another round and get a 10-9 as well. Obviously flawed.
A judge may have a bias for a certain fighter and may not even be aware of his bias. Another judge for the other fighter.
Assuming a perfectly even fight, one judge may score 120-108 for his fighter and the other 120-108 for his. Because they are not supposed to use 10-10.
The system is flawed, and is a convenient excuse to manipulate results.TheOneAboveAll
